Fiorentina Home & Anglo Italian Cup

Not really up for football but going to do the Chorley/Fiorentina double this week.

https://www.acffiorentina.com/en/news/all/news-men-first-team/2024-07-22/viola-touch-down-in-england

Anyone remember our only season in the Anglo Italian Cup in 93/94?

5-0 Home win over Ancona then 3 draws with Brescia (3-3- at Home), 1-1 at Pisa then 1-1 at Ascoli, saw us go out at the group stage.

The first final in 1970 was abandoned with Swindon leading Napoli 3-0 in Napoli due to crowd trouble!

ESL looking as if it will be 80% full. WSL looking more like 40%. Currently about 40 Viola fans in their seats. Seen loads of the new pink shirts. Looks better in real life.

Santos has gone backwards in the last 12 months imo.

He’s a shadow of the player he was & he doesn’t look that arsed about it.

Agreed.Hopefully this new lad from Wycombe either makes him get back to his best or if not replace him

Absolutely, that forward in the 2nd half brushed him with ease off the ball, we shouldn’t be looking to build the back line around him anymore

Apart from the fact we played a different formation in the first half?

We adapted from 5-2-3 to 3-4-3 throughout that half. And of course we invite pressure on; that’s how we play and how we play well.

Maybe a different starting formation but very quickly reverted to the same as last season

I disagree. Formation only changed second half out of necessity when Collins went off.

But as friendly matches ago, against a top level opponent, I thought we handled it pretty well. Stay positive.

Collins has a cut/bruising, doesn’t sound serious.

Emphasis on the boys backing each other on the scuffles “We’re going to need that this season”

Light on numbers - working hard to try and address that.

Generally pleased with performance and  where they are up to pre-season

Santos was knocked off the ball by a player that cost Everton £27.5m (Moise Kean), so in his defence, I would say that he did pretty well against him except for that one glaringly obvious fuck up.

Aye, Kean's also played 15 times for Italy.

Seems like it's a trait of Wanderers teams over the years - play against classy fancied opposition and every player is up for it: massive work rate, passion, drive and determination. Play against struggling sides in the league and the lacklustre performances creep in.

Psychological.

Spot on. They need to show this type of desire when things get tough against the shitters in league one.

Actually a good tackle that. Very unlikely to get penalised in our league.

I know you're joking but, there was a fairly big group of them towards north/east corner, made a bit of noise at one point and 3 lads sat behind us.

Didnt understand why they wouldn't have got tickets in away end.

That's such a great tackle. Obviously the Italian player was going to act like he'd been shot. Glad he's back

Agree 💯

That type of tackle can really get the crowd involved.Something I think we missed last season a proper hard but fair defender. Was for me one of the highlights last night

There was a row of 10 in front of me in ESL.

They spoke in Italian throughout but young lad was in full Wanderers strip.

And some of our fans were in their end, for some reason.
