Agree but not a chance Evatt will do that. Last 30 mins yesterday was like a Primary school game everyone running for the ball and no formation.

We have Two centre backs in Jones and Johnston who can fit in as full backs but we do not have any natural full backs

Evatt is playing russian roulette with his own job simple

Agree ... also Iredale but definitely Johnston in a LB spot. Not seen enough of Schon to make judgement but he looks more like a winger then a LB or WB. For me Cogley doesn't get forward enough so is best suited to RB along with Jones.

I agree we are asking for too much from just 2 centre mids, the possession keeps getting turned over and we don’t win it back quick enough with only 2 in there, could play 3 centre backs and 3 in middle of the park if we went 2 up top, but we’ve spent load of money to go back to a front 3 and that’ll mean 2 of the four strikers miss out.

Before we sack of 3 up top it’s worth trying Matete and Thomasson to see if the extra legs they have improves our performance.

Maybe but I don't think it will. Looks like we're trying to replicate Derby's formation last season. If so ... its time to get used to a much rigid style and a lot more long balls.

Also ... dropping a CB doesn't necessarily mean losing 3 up top. 4231, 433, 4312 etc.

I disagree. There were several moments today when it looked like he was on a hiding to nothing, and he somehow managed to win/keep the ball with 2 or 3 defenders breathing down the collar of his shirt. He has the makings of a great target man at this level. He looks a different prospect to last season imo.

I know what you're referring to, first 10 minutes or so that he was on, he took the ball with strength and control in tight areas with his back to goal and looked in the mood.  I think the "first touch" comment is more that when he's in a more attacking situation and there's a possiblity of creating half a chance, it often doesn't happen, it either runs away from him when he tries to take it in his stride or his pass is wayward and that did happen at least twice yesterday, and in midweek.  To be fair the same can often be said of Charles although I thought he looked on form yesterday, and Collins is normally reliable for good control and passing, but yesterday and at Orient he's been off his game.

I was scrambling for reception to put a 3-0 bet on, glad it never opened up! If I’d have predicted 10+ different score lines 0-0 would not have featured in any of them.

I never bet on correct score (total lottery) but if I did 0-0 wouldn't have featured same as you.  That was the first since Plymouth January 2023 (and that was 2nd on trot after Derby, also on Sky).  Its strange coming to a home game and not seeing the lift that a goal gives to the crowd once.  Anyway still unbeaten at home in the league since Collins signed!  But that's the first one we've not scored in since Wigan a year ago, can't complain, hopefully another year before the next.

Sorry I was being sarcastic, I'm agreeing with you.  JDB was available week after week after midweek last season, one of the only one's in the squad that didn't get injured once he'd regained fitness a few weeks into the season.  Never understood the injury prone tag myself but once you've got it it sticks, whereas others get injured regularly but don't get the tag.  Its probably ageist!

I thought McAtee would fulfill that CF role that we've lost without JDB (and CJ as a sub) but that's not looking like his role so we're weaker in that department now as you say - or rather we're playing a different system, with no physicality at centre forward (to date).  Obviously other qualities can come into play but we've lost that option if McAtee isn't the one.

I still question the wisdom of letting JDB go. I was a big fan and always thought he gave us something different.

smart arse answer, he hasnt got a club and looks like ending up in iceland

Something else I've just remembered. The music they played over the video compilation before kick off was RIDICULOUSLY FUCKING LOUD.

It's been 2 games and folk are bringing up Bod.

Fuck me lads turn it in. The blokes now playing for some outfit in Iceland and we've just spent mega bucks on a brand new striker.

Bod isn't changing fuck all there yesterday.

Not lamenting his loss, a good guy but his time with us had been and gone. Not looking at bringing in someone of his type though looks questionable.

I really liked him and he was a lovely watch

However, what is his type?

Its bloody annoying isn't it.  Prior to that a bit of atmosphere was building up nicely from both sets of fans, that stopped it dead in its tracks.  No problem with them showing the video - I quite enjoyed it - but absolutely no need for the music.  Proper tinpot and someone justifying their existence.

A forward with a nice lovely touch but fuck all else.

Aye. Never heard it that loud before though. Somebody fucked up.

Yeah, I'd agree with people thinking we could do with a target man option but JDB was never really that

A focal point, target man, leader of the line, physical presence, some or all of those things is what I'm getting at. Bod wasn't necessarily a world beater at any of that but was all we had that was anywhere near.

I liked Bod but you can like someone and move on. Many players fit this bill

Johnston as a left back- not for me.

As said elsewhere, occasionally try two central defenders, and an extra bod in midfield.

Maybe a switch later on if the opposition has started to nullify our play.

The formation really is geared to missing out the midfield if we're being pressed, but it were facing a team camped out, then try another man further forwards.

Anyway, just a couple of games in and plenty of time.

It's not often a side starts off like a house on fire and continues to lead and win by a country mile.

Derby gradually got it together last year, after an inauspicious start.

Bit of a whoosh.

Regarding the pre match build up.

I got quite a big feeling of pride as a Wanderers fan, seeing that expertly crafted video of all our history along with the different songs that have followed us over time.

Then seeing the LED banners light up all our trophies and triumphs in front of 26,000 supporters. It was truly a moment to soak in.

Result aside, one thing it did show to those travelling from Wales was how a truly big and historical club looks like.

Proud to be a wanderer, but time to get out of this division now.

And for his information I gave up spice for lent.
