Oasis are massive in the British Isles. Nowhere near as big anywhere else.

These days aye, but I'd say anyone doing sales to the mid to late 00s is on a similar scale before downloads and streaming took off

That said I'd be amazed if little mix had sold as many physical albums and singles as oasis but they're both on 75 million so dunno

Oasis came with a lot of hype so was surprised some of those artists came ahead of them

Suppose you could say the same with the spice girls though they did 90 million across 3 albums in 4 years so that's pretty intense sales, probably one of the fastest in that list

The Hereford Newcastle comparison is ridiculous. I was replying to the comment that Oasis where the biggest thing to come out of the UK in the last 40 years. I disagree. But I get it. Oasis hit a consciousness and sold plenty. Folk love them. But they are a par with the Spice Girls. If they're not careful Oasis fans could morph into Leads United fans. Full of their own exaggerated self-importance.

If culture club or radiohead announced a tour today it would barely make the news. 

Oasis this week was the headline news on ever major news outlet and is literally the first thing anyone's spoken about since it broke.

Liam sold out Knebworth last summer as well as UK and European tour of sold out mega venues.

If you asked a man in the street to name a famous band 9/10 would say Oasis.

Every single person in this country knows who the Gallagher brothers are. 

Who in Christ's name knows who's in Radiohead ffs

 

Always the same with these debates, just because you don't like something personally, it doesn't make them shit.

Nobody can deny the impact Oasis made on this country, whether you like them or their 4th album or not.

OK Computer was probably as big a deal as What’s the Story.

Radiohead never split up though, technically. I’d imagine they’d pull some fucking enormous crowds after a 15 year break.

Course they would. They were/are great band with some great songs.

Putting them anywhere near Oasis is regards notoriety and massivness is just daft though.

Absolutely huge in the 70s. 

Something like 3% of global record sales in his peak years

His 70s stuff is amazing. Captain Fantastic and the Dirt Brown Cowboy, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Honky Château, Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player, Madman Across the Water.

All great albums, which gave him fame in the US as well. Then had huge hits in the 80s (the albums haven't dated quite as well) 

One of the best on those albums alone. Give them a listen, there's some classics beyond Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting.

Well I did in terms of a race for the #1 single for a few weeks in August 95 

But it seemed to get taken literally and you should only like one or the other

Blur did some great songs that Oasis couldn't come close too 

And vice versa 

Blur won the race for #1 but don't come close in terms of crowd pulling potential 

You know what they should do through 

Get Blur on one of the days at Wembley

Along with Pulp

And Suede
