On this day

What an atmosphere

Oh what days they were. Loved being in my 20's roaming around Europe watching Bolton. My Dad used to pity me for not getting to see Lofthouse or Worthington play. I pity my son for not being able to watch us in Europe. Really hope he gets something soon to pass that feeling down to his own kids!

How crap was Matt Taylors header in the build up to that goal by the way!

Poorly directed but a more powerful downward connection than any Santos attacking header in four and a half seasons!

And now we’re sandwiched between Wrexham and Shrewsbury 😭

It was. It'll be 50 years ago next year.

Unforgettable as was the away leg for different reasons.

Zozzytours via Alicante.

On this day 39 years ago a scouse/welsh cnut was born - Happy Birthday Bi E

Constrast that with eight years ago yesterday and another 1-0 home win.... v Rochdale with a Mark Beevers goal that barely crossed the line.

This football club has very high ceilings and low floors.

Already feels a lifetime ago with a pandemic between then and now

and Rochdale - 9th in L1 that day, 3 points off the playoffs. Now they're 3 points off the playoffs in the National League

I count losing to Rochdale 4 times in one season as one of the lows for me. Think it was the Hill season?

Losing 4 times in a season that got cut short by 10 games as well

For what it's worth one of them was technically a draw

The one that gets me is Scunthorpe. We were battling for promotion with them and a late deflected James Henry goal got us a tough home win in a 6 pointer…

They’re now playing Curzon Ashton and Warrington Town in league games!

Mad innit. On that day Bury were in that division and 9 points ahead of rock bottom Coventry. If the latter beat PNE next Saturday they could be in a Championship playoff position while Bury host South Liverpool, after not long after beating the might of the Isle of Man at home.

It was Scunny where their Chairman complained about our wage to income ratio being above 75% (thanks mainly to Davies and Pratley still being on PL wages) when it was pointed out Scunthorpe were at 105%! Feck em.

I’m convinced we killed Scunthorpe. They were the best team in the division till that game. I really think it finished em off.

Heart warming, isn't it?

Still did us at their place though

Great away day on the piss though even if it is possibly one of the worst aways for pubs

How does that work? 😂

For what it’s worth I remember the pubs being ok. Rough round the edges but cheap as fuck. Similar to Chesterfield in that sense.
