On the 10, fuck i hate that, maybe thats perfect for ACD?

I'd have been happy enough with any sort of a draw there beforehand, thought it'd be a higher scoring game maybe, but either way, a point pretty much as hoped for / expected. Three on Wednesday and it'll look a decent enough start

He was excellent. Skimmed their full back a good few times, just hope his end product is good! I’d expect him to start over Gale on Wednesday.

I think Gales going to take a bit of time to adjust,  starts well but then tails off.

Tutu ... all flair no end product.

Supposed JDC stayed on as long after that injury, he looked very very sore!

looks like he's happy to run at defences, terrorise them and be a pain in their arse

i expect lots of stepovers

Few thoughts (having been at the game)

1. Barnsley were competitive and well organised, but poor. Very similar to Plymouth last week I felt. Goal and a free kick aside, they barely threatened and offered little to trouble us. The sending off, in a strange way, helped them as it allowed them to sit deep without the expectation of their fans to push on. Surely we’re at a point where people must understand how much playing 10 men changes a game and, if you’re behind, makes it very difficult.

2. We gave a soft goal away, down that same right channel that Sheff Wed exploited on Weds.

3. Randall struggled. I expect, if SS does bring another forward in, there’ll be games that neither McAtee nor Randall play. It may be Barstow who sits a little behind, or Kenny. We need another forward, but i think that position behind the main man may be what determines our season as there will be games where the wingers are played out of it (as Gale was today).

4. Cissoko showed promise. But he’ll be judged on end product.

5. We should have won, and did enough to win. Absolutely no need to panic and plenty of positive signs. I expect two home wins this week and we’ll be sitting on 10 points from 5 games. Bang on target.

Waited a little while before saying anything.....Clowns  having a go at TSL....We have him for one reason and one reason alone to learn.  If he was 90% the finished article he would be top end Championship.

Our defence is simply not good enough...Mask it all you want those 4 today Pre date the Manager... Are they all bad players certainly not Conway is going to have a great career, all the rest are honest lower league footballers.

Midfield....We play a two which makes us weak....Simons is class as is Erhahon and it is time they started together.

Morley, Sheehan, Randall ,McAtee blow hot and cold hence why they are in this league.

Out wide we have pace, but managers are  setting teams up nullify this,

Forwards we simply have no threat....Burstow holds the ball well and causes the defenders problems but he will never get 20 a season.

This squad is a top 6/8 team at the moment, add Taylor and Dalby it will be a top 6

Why people are having a go at the manager at this time is beyond me.

Last season there were only 2 players from all the 72 efl clubs that scored 20 or more apparently.

We'll finish top 2, it's almost a whole new squad, will take a few games to gel but can see us going on a winning run and demolishing a few teams.

Should've won today but will take the point and score 4+ on wednesday

I dont know that anybody is

Though you did question his team selection

2 league games running, no less

The idea that you have to have a 20 goal plus striker to be near the top is a bit outdated for various reasons, coaches managing players minutes, rotating, pace and physicality of the game meaning more injuries, coaches looking for goals from the 'no 10' and others. If you play one up front, that lad gets 15 in 30 or so games and his deputy gets 5 or 6 from the remaining 16 you're there anyway. SS is looking (or at least hoping) also for his two wingers to weigh in with at least half a dozen each

He has been poor today but played well previously he is better than mcatee though

Not this season.  I was unsure why he got credit for last week and while he wasn't awful I'm convinced he was praised because we won and he'd replaced McAtee.  I know he can play better than he's showing but he needed to step up this season with the extra competition and he's gone the other way so far.

What i find most odd is folk giving opinions on the performance base on what dearden and iles are saying

Unless actually watching it, there isn't any other way.

They were both there and relaying details. Similarities between them.

Compare that with views on here that completely contradict each other.

For example one post claimed we hadn't had much in the way of decent chances first half- the two reporters disagreed. Further comments on here also reckoned we'd had some.

These views almost entirely from folk watching on the box.

Having since read SS comments, in general they reflected those of the commentators.

Been listening a bit to Radio Manc.

JD reckoned we've failed to capitalise on two really good chances.

Both BN and radio sort of suggesting Randall isn't affecting the game enough.

The achiles heel this position for me.

Be nice to have a bit more control, and also a bit more influence up top.

Can't help but feel that sooner or later Erhahon needs to be given a chance, and almost make it a 4-3-3 with the full backs giving width.

Whatever is needed from the much vaunted number ten position just isn't happening enough for me.

Was about to put my thoughts on the match together but this pretty much sums it up. The "10" position is the biggest problem, and Erhahon looked nice and tidy, and effective, when he came on at left back.

While I'm on though I'll add my other thoughts:

-we need a right back. The difference between Conway and Cogley is massive. All the threat came down their left because Cogley is too weak. Tutu coming on against 10 wasn't really a barometer.

-the midfield has to take some onus to create. They were playing it out wide too much to the point where Barnsley had doubled up on both wingers. There was so much space through the centre

-Sheehan can not be on free kicks or corners.

But the biggest issue is the 10 role. I'd switch to a midfield 3 as I just don't think we have a player who can do it. However, a point away at Barnsley is a decent result and we should be pretty pleased overall. Even with the man down they time wasted expertly while still looking threatening on the counter.

We must go out of our way to buy players that can't pass a football to each other

I don't think I've watched the same game.  We may not have played great, but Morley, Simons, Erhahon, Sheehan were passing the ball with accuracy to teammates.  I'm not saying that wins you games or scores you goals (clearly it doesn't) but I'd find it hard to knock the passing for most of the game, especially when Morley came on and upped the tempo.

Pure frustration at a missed opportunity.  I don't think we are shit, I don't think most of our players are shit (including McAtee), I just really hate losing, especially in what feels like a very familiar way.

We didn't lose.

Read this thread many are knocking TSL, they need to give their heads a shake

Think it’s to early to say where we will Finnish, Dalby could be our 20 goal man, Taylor and erharon added to the spine could be big players . 2 weeks till deadline day possibly ins and outs, could be several weeks till ss knows his strongest team, if we can somehow get 2 wins this week we will be in a healthy place until the team starts to settle.

Fair statements, just think we are short up front and not very strong in Defence....Yet we are technically missing three first 11 starters in Taylor,Erhahon and Dalby......Cissoko could be a wildcard in this league.

No complaints in the start with those three opening fixtures.

I wont be calling players out on here. Happy as things are moving

A few notes.

We drew with Barnsley home and away in the 2023-2024 season.

Being a goal up and getting a red card at 53 mins ment they just put 9 men behind the ball and held on, probably did them a favour, as we'd have ripped them apart on the counter when their legs got tired.

While we did draw level, we've got to get better at breaking down teams that do that and putting them to the sword.

I'm starting to get fustrated at the inclusion of Sheehan in the starting 11, i just dont see what he offers, he looks like an alien in this team totally out of place as the game bypasses him.

Them getting a red definitely did us a favour.  They had to sacrifice McGoldrick and were never a genuine threat after that.  We had loads of chances/half chances which wasn't happening against 11.  And at 1-1, there was only us going for the win, that doesn't happen away at Barnsley if its 11 v 11.

What is encouraging

3 league games

We've had 45 shots and 11 on target

We've conceded

13 and 4 on target

Be reet if that carries on

Just back & some mixed feelings.....with 10 minutes to go, I couldn't see us scoring & would snatch your hand off for a point, but after the equalizer we should have won it with 2 clear headed chances !!!

A big surprise was Sissoko with some almost magical dribbling & decent crosses. (& Erhahon was good in a sort of left back role )

This for me. A team who's conceded on set pieces each game so far this season, and we take every free kick short and square (& slow!). The corner for the goal only came about through a bad error.

Still - id have taken that result at 3pm

Set pieces improved dramatically once Morley came on. Sheehan shouldn't be allowed near them when Morley's off
