Looking at the placement of Gale'z left foot, it seems pretty clear he was right in front of him as the shot is hit to me

Officiating in the premier league is just as bad.

I don't hold any credence to the view we're hard done by. If we want to win yesterday the defence has to stop that horrendous goal we conceded.Ā

You can concede soft goals like we did against yesterday AND suffer bad calls from the so called foul on the centre half was a joke.Ā

You're right, but it was always going to be flagged offside.Ā

Remember a few years back when Doyle was flagged off, despite being several yards away from the keeper. Burton iirc.

You need to see it from behind the goal. He couldn't have been more in his way if he'd tried.

Fair enough, looking at that.

Offside it is.

He should have been more switched on, especially given they had practiced it in training.

I would hope they're not trying to, given they're injured!

Collins has a broken arm iirc- hardly conducive to doing much.

They were still collectively capable enough to get the points required to finish in the top six from where we were shortly after SS arrived

Absolutely.Ā

When it started going to rat shit, SS called them out, and publicly said we needed better players.

He may well have been correct, but at the time it was a risky strategy, and it certainly didn't work in getting them firing again.

Well never know the full goings on, and no doubt soke blame lies all over.

Water under the bridge now, and SS has his squad.

Now he has to start delivering.Ā

I can't disagree with that

I have to agree after watching their goal yesterday and the crap goals we gave away at Barnsley and Lincoln is there anyone else who thinks we have serious problems at the back and is a follow-on from previous years ? I have to say I have absolutely no confidence in that back line apart from Conway. They have neither speed of recovery, timing when to put their foot in and adopt the ' thou shall not pass ' approach or heading ability or get forward and be a threat up front ok Toal has scored one but when you think back to the Beevers/Wheater days and watch the shocking attempted headers like Johnstones yesterday it's so frustrating. Its obvious why we have such a poor defensive record yet again. Get a strong no nonsense centre half / captain material signed quickly or we will miss out again regardless of how many goals we will score at the other end.

With apologies to @SirNat80: I could have picked any number of posts that put the defence at the root of our problems.

The reality is that we’ve had 101 shots at goal in our first 6 games, only 25 of which were on target and only 5* of which ended up in a goal. That’s bloody atrocious finishing and nothing to do with the defence.

*Our goal against Lincoln had no shot.

In contrast, in the same 6 games, our defence have conceded just 29 shots, of which 10 were on target. Despite this, those 10 shots resulted in 6 goals. That’s bloody poor keeping to me and nothing to do with the defence.

If you want to have a go at anyone at the back, Teddy Sharman-Lowe has had a worse start to the season than George Johnston or Eoin Toal.

Well compiled. Managed to wean myself off from checking a couple of week back. Somebody else’s problem now.Ā

The stats are pretty compelling but who's at fault yesterday for their goal? It's Johnstone and Toal for letting the guy run 40 yards without a challenge and then letting him have a shot.Ā

The fact it hits the post and goes in off TSL seems unlucky for him.

Yeah but over the course of the season the impact of refereeing decisions is negligibleĀ

Agree with much of that, but to assert that our keeper has been poor is grossly unfair.Ā

Given that our finishing has been poor, perhaps our opponents' finishing has been much better.

Yeah but so far Schumacher has mentioned he has apologies already this season from the refs for bad calls.

It is not something we should blame for everything as we are our own worst enemies but very little going our way at the moment .Ā

It was definitely offside. Though to be honest, I think if the keeper’s not unsighted by Gale, he probably saves Simons’ shot.Ā
Ā

Some big chances missed again and another shit goal conceded. Bad luck or not, the lad ran half the length of the pitch with zero contact made. It’s frustrating that we seem to have to do absolutely everything to score a goal, but give them up with such easeĀ

Was it a late flag? I noticed on the replay none of their players appealed apart from the keeper, who seemed to realise quite late.Ā  It was offside but a pain in the arse if the flag only went up after the shout.Ā  I was too busy leaping around in the stand for no good reason. For the 2nd year running too after Morleys 'disallowed goal' last year.Ā
