Also just gut instinct, the impression you take away from a game.  I felt we dominated a few home games this season, but none away other than maybe 1st half at Stockport and last hour at Huddersfield.  I've no stats whatsoever to back that up.  Likewise Luton probably dominated the 2nd half on Saturday but again no stats, just the feeling from a game and I didn't even watch that one!  Just going off reports and comments.

I'm just not sure when we're supposed to have dominated and not won, since August.

Instinct is a useful tool- as good as anything- though again, fans will feel differently about the same game!

Well, yes it is.

We dominated numerous games under Evatt. Possession, passing etc.

It worked at first, then didn't later.

So, in one sense nothing changed. We dominated.

We stopped picking up points though.

Wasn't about picking up points though.

The point was certain games we clearly dominated which is pretty easy to interpret despite the actual result.

Unless you're following on Bolton News updates and not actually watching the game that is.

Well that's an interesting interpretation.

If you look back at game reviews on here, I doubt you will find many, if any, where there is concensus on performance: who played well, who didn't.

Some think possession is a waste if it yields nothing.

Some think we don't get the ball in quick enough.

Some think some defenders aren't that good, whilst others think they are.

Therefore, simply by watching the game, no concensus is achieved and therefore it follows that one person's idea of domination differs from another.

You can glean all that by reading posts.

In fact such posts actually prove the point that games as a whole are very subjective, and very much open to interpretation.

You don't have to be at a game to read them and ascertain that.

No but you have to actually watch the match to ascertain if a team is dominating proceedings.

Think most people can tbf.

It's not difficult. One team has the majority of the play and the other doesn't.

You can't tell that on live updates or stats after game.

If its last season, for every game we dominated and didn't win there will be one we won when it was far from the case.  Smash and grabs at Orient, Exeter with flukey late goals, last second winners v Blackpool, Peterboro, benefitting from sendings off v Mansfield, Lincoln.  Charlton was an unlucky home defeat, can't think of any others home or away under IE last season.  We were just poor and had a lot more luck than is normal.

Even if you only follow the stats the story is pretty clear.

The most obvious one was that JSL was only saving 50% of shots on target. Blackpool, Barnsley and Orient are three where we conceded a goal a game with the keeper hardly making a save.

If the opposition had one kick in our half we didn't dominate.

Well we never dominated Derby away in that 0-0 under Freedman as we never crossed the half way line

Apart from when we kicked off but then we probably passed it backwards
