crawshawbooth Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Never done it , stayed in a couple of old inns this year ,both with one cask ale on Has anyone stayed in a spoons hotel hopefully full of beer ? Quote
Not in Crawley Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Never have done but the one in Eastgate in Canterbury looks ok for a cheap stay in a pricey place. if you like your all english with the lads coming off motorway working shifts, its no different then from any Travellodge etc Looks ok for what it is. Quote
Ani Posted May 13 Posted May 13 https://hotels.jdwetherspoon.com/hotels/george-hotel/ Stayed here a few times . Our offices were directly opposite, could see into the main meeting room from my bedroom. Was fine, although there was a much better place just round the corner. Nice little place Bewdley. Quote
Cheese Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Stayed in quite a few while working around the country pre-covid. They were always perfectly adequate. Without fail, we'd go down for breakfast at 7AM and there'd be 3 or 4 old blokes dotted about reading newspapers with a pint of bitter on the table. Quote
MancWanderer Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Stayed at one in Barrow. Was very good. No complaints at all Quote

I often wonder where your day goes after 4-5 pints and it's not even 11am. Quote

Bertie Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Not stayed there myself but got a mate who’s been to the Whitby one a few times - says it’s great. Quote

Sweep Posted May 13 Posted May 13 The one near to me is supposed to be decent: Wetherspoon Hotels | Biggleswade | The Crown Hotel The only issue that I've seen is when folk arrive at 8pm on a Friday night and try to check in (which is at the bar) - you can imagine, the place is fucking rammed and generally full of pissed up Reform voters, feral families and scrotes drinking jugs of cocktails.......and they're trying to check in and drag their suitcases through the bar and up 3 flights of stairs 😁 Quote

I see them in the Station pub in town at 9am and various others. They'll be surely drinking just to feel normal/not ill and stop shaking and stuff. 11am 4-5 pints in on a Monday morning. Where's the day heading there. It's one sad old way to live. Quote
Carlos Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Did the Dublin one, you could look out of the internal window and see how busy the bar was. Absolute quality. Quote

My Father-In-Law was an "functioning" alcoholic for years -and he worked in Leatherhead, so he had a 60 mile drive to work around the M25. He'd have to have a couple of glasses of red in the morning (5am) so that he felt OK to drive. During the day, to prevent himself feeling shit, he used to drink little nips of Listerine, so he always had the alcohol, and it kept his breath minty fresh - He was perpetually in a state of trying to fight off a hangover, by remaining permanently pissed. Anyway, he's not had a drink for 7 years now. Looking back, and knowing what we do now, it's amazing how he didn't kill himself or anybody else. Some of the things he did when pissed were very funny though (well, they made me and my Brother-In-Law laugh......not my wife and Sister-In-Law so much though) Quote
