Politics - Part 2

Kemi Badenoch doesn’t really need to speak in public more than once a month and she’ll do ok. In that respect, keeping her head down is proving very effective.

Sniping from the sidelines and criticising everyone clearly has merit. 🙃

This is part 2 of the Politics discussion.

Not read any of this thread. But i reckon, Labour could do no worse than arranging a boxing match between Kier Stalmer and Andy Burnham at Gmex.

A bit like that fat block and Jack Paul on Youtube. Id pay £5 to watch the silly bastards windmilling for a few miunutes and seeing them both go blue in face.

Also get Charlie Magri and Chris Eubank to summarise for added confusion.

And Wes Streeting can treat the battered loser on a bed in the corridor just like he did as Health Sec... hope they won't need a dentist because they'll need a second mortgage

I agree in general.

This fella has always spoken sensibly about the situation though.

Neither a "don't look back in anger" response or an explosive reaction.

Just thoughtful and measured.

Of course, and it's commendable

Just to clarify, my point applies in every instance

Other parents who've lost children to social media bullying supportive of the ban, the Nowak family, Brianna Ghey's mother, etc.

Neither do I think the parent's veto trend that seems to be developing is fair or healthy either

Aye, I realised you meant generally.

To be honest, it's commendable that you made the point, as I think it's one of those points that would be seen as a bit "taboo" in the media. You could imagine the outcry in certain quarters.

But you are absolutely right, it would be entirely wrong to operate in a reactionary way.

Peers on Tuesday approved the Combined Authorities (Mayoral Elections) (Amendment) Order 2026, which would revert mayoral elections to the supplementary vote system, where voters get a first and second preference candidate choice. It reverses an order made in 2022, which had mayors elected using the first-past-the-post system.

Thank you.

From what I'm reading - it was always this system historically put the Tories moved it to FPTP in 2022 because it benefitted them.

So it's a return to the norm as much as anything? And presumably good news for smaller/independent candidates?

I'm not sure this makes them 'the most morally corrupt' government in history as the click bait would suggest 😁

First Past the Post was adopted as part of electoral reforms after the first world war and was only intended as a "stop gap" until a fairer system was decided upon, AV or PR or some other.

Trouble is, if you get into power via FPTP you then want to retain it no matter what you said previously.

The Tories have been a historical supporter of FPTP... I wonder what their view is now they have become a minority party?

I think all parties manipulate these things to more or less of a degree when they're in power, don't they? I'm not saying it's right or proper. But Labour will probably just see it as undoing something that shouldn't have been touched in the first place.

They'll all be trying to get to the UK now seen as we likely won't be part of any agreement.

They already have an agreement to send them back to whichever eu country they came from.

Just couldn't be bothered really using it.

Hopefully, this will work more effectively.

Time will tell.

If we quickly adopt a similar approach, Starmer can send ours back, and gain a modicum of support...

I wish we were still in the EU and could exercise that right.

Anywhere - we are where we are. On the outside looking in.

What is this EU 'send the buggers back' policy anyway? Does it seem reasonable/workable? It'll certainly make it easier for the public to swallow if we enact something similar over here anyway.

Although I imagine the channel is going to be busy over summer.

Seems there are three of you who don't. The rest of us do.

Fucking crooks like their US counterparts.

D Where are they 'all' trying to get to anyway? 'Agreement' lol Action is needed not snoozing after a 5 star lunch and not giving a fuck.

High time the bungling bureaucracy started to turn them back in the Med the useless cunts.

I'm glad we're not. Being out of the EU will allow us to do it properly once big Nige gets in.

Here we fucking go again. The man I 'idolise' drinks in the Cross Guns at Egerton.

The term 'big Nige' has fuck all to do with the mans physical stature, rather his political stature. Head and shoulders above any UK politician this century and probably since the 28th November 1990.

"You aren't laughing now, are you?".

I know and yet people still follow his two thousand years old 'teachings'. Laughable eh?

There's another mob who are even worse who follow the teachings of a paedophile.
