Politics - Part 2

Kemi Badenoch doesn’t really need to speak in public more than once a month and she’ll do ok. In that respect, keeping her head down is proving very effective.

Sniping from the sidelines and criticising everyone clearly has merit. 🙃

This is part 2 of the Politics discussion.

It’s beginning to look a bit shitty all this speculation and camping outside No. 10.

I’m not his biggest fan but he is our PM and deserves a bit more dignity. The media and Labour politicians aren’t coming out of this with any credit at all.

Yes the Tories were the same.

2 years is probably as long as any PM will ever last from now on I think. I just can’t see social media morons (on either side) letting anyone last longer.

The Tories are keeping a fairly low profile these days, which is probably clever. When Burnham is booted out late next year and people are a bit fed up with reform, they will once again emerge as the best of a bad bunch.

I’d rather have starmer than burnham.

Lovely stuff. Back to the 'thick, owd racists' strategy.

Exactly the fillip needed. Keep it up please and do it loudly.

🙄

Rinse & repeat

Come and go like Watford managers

The cap and abolishing the time restrictions for concessions. 👍

The Bee Network has also been a success in my opinion. Remember where the money came from though.

I’ll also give him credit for beating a plumber from Wigan in a constituency that has voted for a Labour MP since the party was formed👍

Being PM of the UK could be a completely different matter though. Most of us won’t have a say in it at the moment though, unfortunately.

Yes, just like the Tories.

Yup the Bee network is fantastic. And its good to hear they're integrating it to the train network in coming years.

Madness really, all because he's a bit dull and methodical. Anyone who thinks Burnham will get an easier ride because he's 'more charismatic' is fucking puddled.

Whatever your views on who would be best leader of the Labour Party or your own political preferences watching the Prime Minister be selected by a process that is more like X Factor than our established democratic processes and traditions just feels very shabby.

If anything he'll get a much tougher ride, especially if there turns out to be no leadership contest, the lack of mandate and publicly laid out policies will harm him and lead to pressure for a GE.

But, I do believe he will have a much better grasp of his comms and getting a better message out there than Starmer was able to.

Amazing how many people who have screeching about Starmer on Facebook are now saying Burnham will be worse.

That'll be key I think. Trumpeting their successes on msm and openly discussing why they're not doing other stuff. Whoever steps in now is only likely to be there for 2 years max. It's what comes after I'm more worried about.

PMSL

King of The North

has got 2 years to try and win the voters back

To be fair, they're not all "owd" there are some younger ones as well

I think the pressure for a GE will be almost immediate, as soon as he's crowned, it'll be interesting to see how he copes/responds to that pressure

Why would there be an election? We elect parties not presidents.

The Labour Party has a mandate not Starmer or Burnham.

It doesn't sound like he'd be planning on deviating from the existing manifesto based on what I heard him say last night. So perhaps less of a need for a GE if he does end up in charge.......

We didn't have a GE when Johnson, Truss or Sunak came in so calls for one now is just noise.

I can't see Burnham making much difference tbh but we'll see, he should at least make the case for the government better than Starmer could.

it's not at all surprising

Starmer was just the face of Labour

folk wanted them out before they got in

they don't want a good labour government

they want reform

when I say they, I mean old Tory / Labour voters and new reform voters

hopefully Burnham will do enough to bring some of their ex voters back

So Burnham will be next Prime Sphincter then.

I like Burnham. Think he does want to do things differently, but all this constantly changing leaders is a shit show. And I believe it’s all down to our fickle , massively polarised general public.

Mad that folk are still going around calling politicians Traitors in the 21st century.

We’re heading to a dark place if the constant changes of leadership continue across parties. Now more than ever we need stability & compromise.

Our economy & the world going to get much worse before it gets better. As a country we need to look at adapting, becoming more self sufficient & mitigation.

That takes a level of unity that we just don’t have currently. Maybe in a crisis we might, but folk don’t see it as that yet. How does any party in our country persuade the electorate that they need to be patient & make sacrifices. Not going to happen when folk expect miracles within two year.

Lots of Labour MP’s were calling for a GE after Sunak was chosen by the Tories. Including Rayner and Burnham. I’m sure their comments will be resurrected over the coming weeks.

I didn’t think we needed one then and I don’t now.

Just watched his resignation speech. We really didn't need that music playing in the background.

Whatever you think of him, as Prime Minister, I think he deserved 5 minutes to say his piece to the British people with a bit of dignity.

Don't they do that quite frequently?

Probably should just do it elsewhere
