won our first ever World Cup game, a proud day for me after enduring the dark ages of Canadian men's football during the 90s and 2000s. Easily the best team we have ever fielded.

its fans fault its got to this stage mate, we had mass protests when they announced the super league same should and still needs to happen over this shit, it's destroying the game

  • Seems like the USA have inadvertently woken Belgium up ha. An outcome most can get behind.

It's true, but doesn't mean it'll never happen. It will at some point, why not this year....

No "foreign" manager had ever won the Euros, until Rehhagel did with Greece

great knowledge

How to dump a host nation out.

Might be cynical but don't think Canada have been that impressive.

Wins against Qatar and South Africa, a draw against Bosnia, and defeats against the two genuinely decent teams they came up against (Switzerland and Morocco). Benefits of a soft draw.

Agreed. Heard a discussion this week about how the increase to 48 teams has made this last 32 stage more of a 4th group stage game where the chaff are still being separated from the wheat. Reduce this WC back to 32, 24 or 16 teams with Canada as a host and I doubt they make it out of the group.

Im willing to concede that 48 teams had meant a few more romantic stories, but overall I dont know if its made for a better tournament.

Fatigue set in for me in the R32, a lot of shite games there.

Canada had Croatia, Belgium and Morocco last time and not sure they would have fared any better this time around.

Agree again. I think I've put up with this more as the majority of it has taken place while I'm asleep and the tournament has taken the form of 8 minute clips for the most part.

If this was taking place in Germany for example, with 4 games a day for 3 weeks going on at prime time, I'm not sure if I could be arsed.

I might have it on in the background but I'm not really arsed about Switzerland v Colombia, Argentina v Egypt or France v Paraguay in this round.

Still in two minds whether to stay up for the England game. Perhaps watch the first half, maybe I'm just getting old.

Aye it's a proper tough one England.

The kids want to stay up or get up.

I don't know whether to all go bed and get up or ride it through.

Means no beer all day as if I drink I won't wake up or i can only start gone 10pm as will be too pissed and ruin Monday.

What a pile of wank.

Monday has the potential to be one of the least productive in English history. Shame we can't have an impromptu bank holiday 😁

Love how teachers call an inset day out of nowhere but can't call a half day for this.

Wankers have 6 weeks off soon as well.

This Paraguay team shithousing like 1990s Wimbledon

I like that Enciso

I’ve enjoyed watching these lower placed teams in the main. No fear football. But tbh I’ve watched a lot of clips on iPlayer. Would I have watched a lot of the full games had it been In Europe? Probably not

But. Some ‘big’ teams have had the wind put up them by so called ‘minnows’ so overall it’s been alright for me

It was great.

not for me, the ref was just as shameful allowing it, zero respect for Paraguay and the ref/var

Was it fuck.

They can clearly play a bit of football when they can be bothered, but chose not to bother in the end, but drag their country, and the world cup down.

The officials should also be sent home.

A shambolic effort from so many supposed professionals.

No Paraguay bookings, ffn hell!! Ref needs to fck off back to Uzbekistan the bent get

Yep.

Just a bunch of pyramid builders and illicit drug producers.

They knew they couldn't go toe to toe with them so had to resort to the dark arts

Refreshing to see

Loved it. The fucker raking the penalty spot when he thought the ref wasn't looking D plus plenty of other niggles. Bring the arrogant superstars down a peg or two.

Back to the great days of South American football where cynical was king. Reminded me very much of the bastardry employed by Estudiantes De La Plata in stopping the DMB's getting the title of World Club Champions. A result for which I will be forever grateful.
