Goals You Never Tire of Watching

Saw the thread on a Facebook site and it got me thinking. Off the top of my head

BWFC

Frank vs Ipswich

Stu Holden vs Blackburn

Tony Kelly at Springfield Park the famous “Zico” Dave Higson moment

Non-BWFC

Jairzinho 1970 World Cup

Terry McDermott when the scousers demolished Spurs in the late 70s

Gascoigne vs Scotland Euro 96

Edit: changed my mind - love watching the Dave Higson Zico goal

My back story to the Liverpool cup game was I’d just met a new girlfriend and booked a fortnight in Tenerife before the draw was made thinking we’d not make the 3rd round, I rarely missed any game bac

  • 2 of the very best. Watching this just makes me happy. Most goal there is an element of relief, the first was pure joy , the second settled a few nerves on the bench as they say.

Look no further.

I can’t see any mention of Gudjohnsen’s solo goal against Wimbledon in the League Cup.

In addition, Okocha’s run and strike in the relegation 6-pointer against West Ham.

Finally, Jiminho’s strike against, I think, Forest at Burnden.

I'll always remember the sarcastic shouts of "SHOOOT!" around me just before he fucking did

Nicky Hunt against Liverpool.

Most goals by Ivan Campo.

A couple of them if scored by ACD today would be on repeat.

The Nolan and Ricketts goals over the two wins at the Old Trafford sty at the start of the century

The Jay Jay free kick v Boro in the game when we survived.

The Stuart Holden winner v Blackburn in 2010.

For England I would have to pick out something quite recent - Olly Watkins v Holland this time last year. What a moment.

Seems a lifetime ago!

Always remember the players as they were when we saw them play.

A sort of nostalgic churning feeling when you watch them back.

My veggie bed is better quality than that pitch was!

We had some players in them days. They would just shoot on sight. No pissing about backwards and forwards, just knock the skin off the ball.

Wish we had the limbs footage and bench cams and all that caper like we have today.

That Wolves play off semi was a fucking travesty for footage after the goals. Chose to home in kids and flids in Lever end instead getting straight on the paddock.

Funnily enough I’d have Frandsen’s goal in the same game on my list.

‘Okocha free kick’ makes it for the second one against Villa in the semi final

"Gardner, looking to crown the day... And he has done"

Could watch that goal all day long

Maybe it's just the memory playing tricks, but I don't think there are as many long range goals scored.

We see more of these bendy shots to the back stick like ACD does.

Even Phil Brown chipped in with a few back in the day from full back, with drives from edge of the box.

Well, I DO recall, with all that talent, Allardyce instructing players not to shoot from outside the box.

Definitely fewer long range goals because statistically it’s less likely to go in so players are discouraged from doing it. Plus I’d say the standard of goalkeeper has improved.

Things tend go around- maybe in time as teams stifle newer styles, then the longer range shot may be seen as an alternative to possession football that has been nullified.

I remember a journalist asking Allardyce about that after (Nolan) had scored a long range goal

Thats the match, and Phillips' goal specifically, that really lit the Bolton spark for me. 50p, Junior Whites 😃

Going off topic a bit but I watched a re-run of the 66 world cup final (in colour!) a couple of weeks ago, and I'm not exaggerating England had about 6 shots in the first 15 minutes. They were all shit mind, the only midfielder capable of shooting from distance was Charlton (poetry in motion), but the likes of Stiles, Ball, Peters, Hunt were just taking pot shots from outside the box that were garbage. I only mention it to agree that everyone used to just shoot if they had the chance, now its possession at all costs and hoping for the perfect goal.

The 90s was the perfect mix for us of Bolton players wanting to shoot, and having the ability to do it, fantastic to witness.

Ones I wish I could see again Frankie’s goals against Manu home and away… how did local tv not record either game.😩

What sort of night was that for people that went, did the club lay on a convoy of coaches for it?

A few of mine, Anelka v Arsenal in 2006, absolute thunderbastard

Campo's long range daisy cutter v Spurs

Frankie W v Ipswich

Jay Jay's free kick v Villa

Ricardo's clincher at Cardiff

SJM scoring the last goal at Burnden, only a pen but the right finale, emotional for him, for me, and no doubt many of us
