I didn't think of him

who's next

Thomas Frank & Keith Andrews at Brentford.

Just had a quick scan of Wikipedia and 10 current Championship coaches got their start being promoted internally. Bolton vs PNE happens to be a match between two of them.

I don't think it's that uncommon, particularly in the EFL. Sammy Lee and the like stick in the memory, but there are also plenty of managers brought in who have been shit too.

  • Absolutely tremendous. Lots of things to think and chat through but for now lets just think back to those grim days at the end of 2018/19, that day at Wycombe with the kids and the 5-0 defeat at Tranm

  • Not read the last 13 pages, so apologies for repeating others... I thought we were excellent today for at least 75 minutes. We became a bit disjointed with the subs etc, but the starting XI were fant

Ask Little Sam.

I’m a saddo.

On the seat map only (about) 175 seats left.

but can't think of any examples of successful / decent coaches who stepped up to manager at the same club

Colin Todd at, er, Bolton Wanderers.

Seem to remember there was an interview with Rioch and Todd in the build up to the Liverpool FA cup game

They described them as joint managers

Ruben Rodrigues is set to miss between four and six weeks after scans confirmed a minor knee ligament injury picked up in the Carabao Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday

Yes terrible news that, the one true quality Championship player we have and he’s going to be missing the early matches. Let’s hope it’s not too serious and he can be back sooner than later but on the other side it does give a chance to somebody else to make a case for a shot there but hopefully not McAtee?

A real shame, but it could have been much worse.

Still 7 or 8 games though.

People on here would be casting him.aside as injury prone if you give them half a chance.

It's a huge blow and highlights our lack of depth. To lose 2 of our starting 3 midfielders in a league cup game at the start of the season is a nightmare

Down to the bare bones after 1 semi-competitive game.. Bet Preston and QPR are licking their lips

Don't think Preston are in much better shape tbf

Yeh, it’s real shitter, and there’s no point trying to silver line it.

It’s our best player out.

I’m as pissed off now as when ACD got injured in January.

But you hear SS this morning. We’ve got to feed off his positive vibe for tomorrow. It’s a chance for someone else to try and prove themselves.

Let’s hope some siege mentality, a full house and a new defensive line can give us the impetus we need for 3 points.

So who's likely to partner Sheehan? I'd presume Watson, but is he ready for the step up? EE not fully fit, maybe Brunt might step in as he's had a full pre season.

Ive probably missed it this week - how many games is Simons missing for - 1 or 3? Ta

Rodrigues out is a big blow and horrible luck. The blow of Simons being out is now cushioned by Erhahon being available - just how match fit he is remains to be seen. Brunt can play in holding midfield it seems. Suspect it's a toss up between McAtee and Watson for the Rodrigues role. Maybe even Hardie?

Won't be a bench with much depth!

Think 3

Not too sure I would be describing Simons as a starting midfielder.

Had a mixed season last time round, and will need to show greater consistency this.

I still have concerns about the defensive aspect of a two man midfield and wingers.

It'll be 3 once the FA have looked at it.

Usually get 1 game for the red then an extra 2 added on later for violent conduct.

Normally I’d agree, but with the injury to Erhahon and Schu’s comments about his energy and running power being importantl, I think he was a shoe-in to start

That goal against Bradford has done a good job wiping people's memories of Simons. Feels like he's seen as the player he was assumed to be this time last year, rather than the one who barely played for six months. And when he did play we invariably didn't win.

Whether Watson's good enough himself we'll see, but purely comparing the two I don't think he has a high bar to clear to be an improvement.

Yes, jury's still out for me.

I'm not Sheehan's biggest fan neither: He could be tremendous and conduct games in league one, and also be virtually anonymous.

Can't see those two together being any better than they were, even if they have better players around them.

It's an automatic three-match ban for violent conduct

Co-managers rarely work. Always needs to be one voice more senior than the other and whilst they’ll put on a united front, it’s rare that personalities strong enough to back themselves as managers, will concede ideas to another.

One of them will have to ‘drop down’

The longer they leave it as it is, the better for us and other potential strugglers.

I suspect they won't be around (as managers) when the January transfer window comes around. Then again about a third of the 24 managers won't be either.
