Now Luxor is a completely different kettle of fish to the likes of Sharm. I would like to visit the Valley of the Kings and Petra in Jordan too one day.

It was amazing mate. I was literally sat round at my hotel bar, on the banks of the river Nile enjoying the most amazing sunset with a cocktail, looking out over the Valley of the Kings.

You know when you have a moment where you have to pinch yourself 😊

Europe is the fastest warming continent on the Earth. We’ve some horrific times ahead when we hit 3 degrees of warming - doesn’t bear thinking about if the AMOC goes.

Collectively we’ve just got our head in the sands & seem to still be in denial.

Countries will have no choice but to continue to militarise their borders. The numbers will just be unmanageable.

The asylum system works well in its time & was a force for good when we lived in more prosperous times. It’s completely broken now.

Yep, from what I’ve read this is more to do with political wars between Morocco Spain and Algeria. Apparently 48k have since returned back to Morocco

Because I was replying to Gonzo and we have had a conversation on here about how I believe social media and Farage has had direct involvement in the unrest and riots in the recent past and the increase in xenophobia here.

We aren't in the EU and Farage had a direct role in that, this is an issue for Spain to sort out for sure so hope that clears it up for you.

Likes of Sharm is like righting of Spain based on Benners and Magaluf. Some decent hotels if you like snorkel or scuba.

Agadir in Morocco is a lot more westernised than rest of the country. Very few youngsters sporting Muslim attire.

The big debate about immigration aside what this episode does do is draw attention to Spain's possessions along or just off the north coast of Africa.

It has to be said that there is an element of hypocrisy about their long-standing attitude to Gibralter given they hold these possessions.

Cueta is the largest and the one in the news. Further east there is Melilla, smaller but another enclave with a decent population - and many folks know about these.

However there are a number of uninhabited islands, some of which are not much more than a stone's throw from the African mainland.

Perhaps the most fascinating is Penon Velez de la Gomera. There are no inhabitants but there is a decent sized Spanish garrison and a helipad. It is very remote so not the same chances of African people arriving en masse as per Cueta the other day.

Penon Velez de la Gomera was a large island just off the coast until a huge storm blew up and left it connected to the mainland via a beach. It is now the shortest land border anywhere in the world and you only know you cross over that border when you step over a rope on a beach. One of the world's great ecccentricities.

Correct. I’m against illegal immigration and think Farage is a racist hypocritical wanker. I’m pleased that boat crossings are down c40% and I’d be even happier if there were none.

But equally, I’m not a fan of seeing dead people wash up on the beach, so if there are people on boats, they should be helped ashore. Then processed in line with the law (which in my view should be tightened).

It all dates back to colonial days and who controls the straights of Gibraltar (think of it in the same way now as Iran controlling the Straights of Hormuz).

Back then we took Gibraltar to control it for ourselves.

These days Spain retains hold of those tiny islands in exactly the same way Iran claims ownership of the tiny islands in the Hormuz Straight, in that between the mainland and the islands, their national waters covers the both sides of each straight.

Can't really blame Spain or ourselves holding on to what we already have really in my view.

I guess both Gibraltar and the Spanish islands could vote for independence (or to merge with Spain or Morocco) but certainly in Gibraltar's case they voted to stay as part of the UK.
