Quote in one of the papers today that says Sam believes he has taken us as far as he can.

Bit early for the England job as I believe Sven will be in charge until world cup exit.

Souness out, Sam in ?

(was in the papers last week that if they dont win against Blackburn or City he will be sacked)

i reckon he has taken us as far as he can

hes taken us as far as anybody could, or is ever likely to do

but leaving?

i think he'd be stupid

Certainly in terms of what Bolton can achieve, with the crowd we can pull and the money we have available, we can't really go any higher.

We may win a cup, but it sounds like Sam wants more than that.

Any thoughts on possible replacements ?

Phil Brown - he did a great job for the 6 games in charge a few years ago.

those are the only english jobs that he would take that would be a step up from bolton

but whos to say he wouldnt want to go abroad

didnt he once manage in the states

and what if a foreign international's fa came knockin

Posted

anyone taking the newcatle job is stupid.

they have just blown their budget by spending ??23m on luque and owen.

it would be funny if sam did go there and dropped shearer though.

big sam is a legend at bolton and i would love him to fulfill his 10 year contract at bolton, but i am sick and tired of him touting himself for every big job in the country, gartside should put a gag on him, sam may have taken bolton as far as he can but surely the same can be said about ferguson at old trafford, Sam shut up or resign and take your chance on the management merry go round.

Sam is a good manager. but i agree totally, i', not sure how he does it with the players to be honest? as all we as mear fans here from him is either him whinging about the refs or officials, and i can't remember the last time i heard him take the rap for anything? poor performances, poor substitutions, lack of effort, never his fault!

let's see where we go, one swallow doesn't make a summer as they say!

and as long as he's manager of bolton i'll back him. i would like to see some decent football played though eh! which surely isnt too much to ask!???

i find it very difficult to fault Sam for anything.

do not agree with everthing he says and does but he seems to be doing ok.

Media tossers!

On one hand they hate his stlye of play

on the other they want him for the england job

whatever happens though he will always have the biggest potato head in football

its massive!!!!!

Do you not find he has a comment on everything and anything though? He appears in every magazine on every programme, and in every paper commenting on things that 9 out 10 are not to do with the Whites.

He is the Gary Neville of Managers!

I agree with Ian. Sam has done a brilliant job, I'm loath to criticise him. I doubt there is another manager out there who could do anywhere near as good a job if we lost him.

BUT I resent the moaning about attendances. He wasn't moaning when he took the job. It's not something he should get involved in.

Nor should he forget the freedom he gets to do his job and the backing the board give him. At Newcastle he'd have six months before he was under intense pressure if they weren't top four.

how the fcuk are going to get players in when sams saying stuff like this....

alrite,

I think your a bloody good player and would be a great addition to our team however I'd think about it cos I might not be here for longer than 6 months. If the new manager likes you is your risk, your problem not mine!....AND I assure you, you are not here just to sell shirts!!!

Allardyce confesses to looking beyond Bolton

By Peter Lansley

SAM ALLARDYCE last night came his closest yet to admitting that, after six years as manager, he has taken Bolton Wanderers as far as he can. The nation???s choice to be the next England manager ??? according to one popular newspaper ??? stopped short of claiming the sale of a mere 14,000 tickets for the club???s European debut tonight has sullied the dream he pinned up on the dressing-room wall five years ago, but he did hint that he may require a new challenge if he is to sustain the drive that has led him to this crossroads.

Bolton face Lokomotiv Plovdiv at the Reebok Stadium tonight in the first round of the Uefa Cup with apathy threatening to undermine the occasion. Yet Allardyce accepts that a creditable run in the competition can only enhance a managerial reputation that has him placed among the front-runners to succeed Sven-G??ran Eriksson when the England head coach steps down.

After the national team???s defeat by Northern Ireland last week, Allardyce opted to keep his own counsel on his ambitions but, on the eve of Bolton???s first serious venture into European football, he relented.

???Every success at every level as a manager helps you, whatever opportunities may come along eventually,??? he said. ???For me to say I want to stay here all my life would never be the case because I???m too ambitious. That???s not saying I want to leave, apart from if somebody bigger and greater comes along and says they want me and if that suits me. I can???t carry on my life without being ambitious and without setting other goals and being the best I can ever be. The credibility you might get from achieving things at any one club means that you have to move on. I???ve moved on from Limerick and now I???m at Bolton.

???Within football, I do feel I get the credit, from other managers, from other professionals at other football clubs in this country. No one thought we could sustain what we have and keep going one stage better and yet we have.

???What do you do to be successful, to get to the top of the tree? You don???t aspire or have mission statements, you dream. If you don???t dream what you want to be, you don???t get there. You???re inspired by your own dreams, your own expectations, your own demands.???

Allardyce started his playing career at Bolton as a 15-year-old so tonight???s tie has an extra poignancy for him, even while he keeps one eye on holding back his playing resources for Sunday???s Barclays Premiership match with Manchester City. ???One thing will depend on how many people come along to watch and show whether it means as much to them as it does to me,??? Allardyce said.

so is he not stating the obvious, ie he aint gonna leave unless a BIG job comes along, which EVERYONE knows anyway, including the players...

i dont see the problem...

He should only leave for United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or England

Anything else would be a waste of time.

Out of them and the fact that purple face is getting on and now on 1yr rolling contracts, I'd say United are the most probable... 8-[

Having Sam as manager would no doubt suit their Jewish owners too. :-#

Seems wierd now, but I was gutted when we appointed him.

*hangs head in shame.

I'll hold my hands up too!

I was disappointed at the time.
