3 changes to improve the game

Not a Bolton issue here but a general football one - what 3 changes would you make to the rules???

For me, in reverse order of importance:

3) reduce dramatically the ability of defenders to blatantly foul strikers while shielding the ball on it's way out for a goal kick. At the very least it's normally "obstruction" but sometimes it's absolutely ridiculous fouling.

2) allow the trainer on the pitch during play in certain circumstances - see other thread.

1) introduce sin-bins. Lad at work is a top-flight qualified RL ref - he's run the line at OT during Grand Finals before now - and has also reffed football extensively. Interestingly he lived in Germany for a while during a phase where lower league games trialed the sin-bin option and he reffed many of those games. He said it worked a treat and was popular at all levels. Why was it bounced? Well decision from the very top ie yer Blatters etc apparently.

So if someone who is used to applying it at the highest level in one sport reckons it's fine for another sport, then that gets my vote....

A change of rule I would like to see is having video evidence instantly for important decisions like has the ball crossed the line.

I am opposed to allowing the physio on the pitch while the game is in-play, the ball might hit him for one thing. It seems silly.

3. Technology to be used for ball crossing the line controversies (nothing else).

2. Video evidence to be used after the game and bookings/sendings off made after the game where appropriate.

1. Only the captain can talk to the ref during the game. Anyone else and its a yellow card. We need to get the players having more respect for the ref, who has a thankless task.

personally don't think video evidence should be used unless it's for a deliberate elbowing or off the ball incident which allows the guilty party to be punished

if you want 1., can we also have more accountability for refs, who seem to treat the whole thing like a good bit of well payed fun now they've done the hard work of getting through the lower leagues

1. If you're offside, you're offside.

2. Reintroduce the contested drop-ball.

3. Allow tackling.

agree there needs to be more respect for the ref from the players (a la rugby), however, the refs make a rod for their own back.

1. Make the offside rule black and white - either you are or you're not

2. Goal line video technology

3. Allow referees to ref with common sense again (bit like Rennie first half Sat).

anyone who plays the game, will realise keeping your gob shut when the ref awards a crazy free kick against you for the 3rd time in succession, because some little red ginger keeps throwing himself to the floor, is extremly fookin difficult.

although the rules are getting a little out the hand the main reason for most the problems of todays footy is players trying to cheat the ref and each other.

Did I read somewhere that the Football League held a pole amongst supporters and these two came near the top.

I am sure the Chief Exec has commented that he is willing to try them out if FIFA, UEFA and the FA allow.

Another - handball is handball, non of this "ball to hand" crap. Only exceptions would be for istinctive reactions if its going into your face or knackers.

All this pushing and shoving at corners , some defender are not even looking at the ball, just the player... just give a ragging penalty, it would only take a couple of game to sort out

Ban offside all together - no doubt that way.

We might even benefit from a titty liner who can score 20 goals a season

Good shout, the amount of grabbing / putting arms around strikers at set pieces is a joke.

Even worse, most refs just blow up for a free kick for the defending team instead of sorting it out.

I also get p??ssed off with the old favourite of a free kick/corner kick is taken into the penalty area, and the goalkeeper runs 12 yards off his line and into a pile of players to punch/catch the ball...............he ends up on the floor and it's given as a foul on the keeper. If the keeper is the one with the momentum, and he has made the effort to dash 12 yards towards the ball, then the chances are he is actually the one commiting the foul.

Dead right, if rugby players and boxers who are laying their bodies on the line can control themselves and show a bit of respect for the ref, so should footballers.

1,A graded system of refs cards- depending on the severity of the offence.

2,Goal line technology

3,FOUR linesmen.

Ice hockey's the same only the captain or is assistant captain can talk to the ref nay one else and some one spends 2 mins in the penalty box and therefore you then have all your team mates tell you to keep your gob shut , that???s of course if you get back on the ice after the coach as benched you :D

Ice Hockey style punch ups would be quite amusing as well

I tell you what it would sort the men out from the boys , we would soon find out if these so called hard man were hard or not and I would go for not :D

Oh I don't know. Try watching Allstars any Wednesday night, they'll show you how to stay calm and collected in the face of adversity and allow only the captain to tell the ref to f??ck right off. :D
