Brought a lump to my throat that letter. Ivan Campo - not a BWFC legend in my eyes, but a great servant to the club.

footballing legend, no.

charasmatic legend, yes.

This should be on the club website to show the fans how grateful he was for the fans loyalty!

maybe, but they are hardly likely to publish it, as it doesn't paint a very good picture of Gartside or Megosn does it

I'm not having that our club would do such a thing?!? :nea:

In context, this is a bloke who played for Real Madrid, not Accy Stanley.

Just reading between the lines, he mentions hoping to cross paths with allardyce in the not to distant future, and then goes on to mention the possibility of coaching or scouting roles with the club. Surely he wouldn't work at the club while those two crunts are there ?

Dare we let the take over rumours start again????

Top bloke - treated shabbily when he left.

Latest in a long line who the fans were unable to say goodbye to - Youri, JJ etc.

Fcuking hell, brought a tear to my eye that. I must be a gay.

Exactly. Releasing a player is always difficult, but letting them say goodbye to the fans shouldn't be that difficult to arrange. Mind you, I don't think the people running the club (or almost any club) have the same feelings as the paying fans.

Brought a tear to my eye too. Not many ex-players would take the trouble to do that.

Can't imagine a Diouf or an Anelka displaying so much class in writing summat similar. Maybe not a BWFC legend but will never be forgotten after that. I am sure he will always get a warm welcome at any BWFC game he attends. Top bloke.

i don't get all this "say farewell to the fans" b?ll?cks, in this case or any other

didn't get a chance?

Al Habsi and Stelios did their bit after Sunderland

he knew he was out of contract so nothing to stop him coming on the pitch and waving

had he been told before end of season they weren't renewing his contract he'd have probably had a strop and not turned up

what else could the club have done to terminate his contract in a nice way?

apart from that I like what he says

Unless he was under the impression once we's secured our top flight status he was getting another contract.

JSL

A good read on a friday afternoon...top man Ivan.

He's in a long line of players at the end of contracts who the club knew were going, they probably didn't, which the fans had an affection with, and yet never got a chance to bid farewell or even get them back somehow to give them a hurrah

N'Gotty, Stelios, Youri, Jay Jay

The only two who did were Hierro and Bergsson (who both announced there own retirement, not BWFC)

A very very good point!

I am not really anti-Megson ( or Gartside ) and I am certainly not Big Sams biggest supporter... but I feel after how long it took to persuade such a prestigious player to come and play for us, Sam would have made a bit more of a fuss at his departure. Perhaps told him before the end of the season and given him chance to say goodbye at last game!

sort of my point

when do players ever say goodbye other than when it's known to all it's their last match, i.e, retirement

not just bolton, any club, does it ever happen?

by suggesting we got knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Atletico - does he suggest that the Lisbon game, in his eyes, didn't exist?

my dream would be to see the 5-a-side comp on Sky with the Bolton team consisting of Youri, Campo, Hierro, Jay Jay, Bruno, Stelios and Keith Branagan.

I think you're looking into it a bit deep smiley lad, a simple slip of the tongio by Campo :D

Just proves that Megson had nowt to do with the fight for survival, all down to the players.

I wish him all the best, a class act off the pitch as well

Absolute Legend in my eyes!

I am upset by the way the club has handled this!

Its obviously hit him hard as well!

Is there anyway the Wanderersways website can get a letter to him signed by us??

As we will never see him back at the reebok in Bolton white.

Good luck Campo. Thanks for the memories. Hope to see you again someday.

he is now right at the top of my favourite players due to that letter. Top Bloke!!!

Just to be awkward, how do we know that Ivan was not sat at a poolside in Malaga when he took the call? I'll bet a tanner he wasn't sat in Charnock Rochard Services for 4 days waiting for a call for him to come to Euxton and 'have a chat'.

Megson isnt exactly going to fly out and give him his P45 when he's sorting out his squad, backroom staff, agents enquiries, etc is he?

On the flip side, how much courtesy do players show when their agent waves a big pay rise in front of them and tell them its at another club?

I like the fella a lot, don't get me wrong, but being one who doesn't do self pity very well, I won't lose much sleep because a millionaire footballer hasn't been sent a thank you card by his boss.

I mailed the guy who wrote the article, and got the reply....

Thanks

Unfortunately I cannot divulge Ivan's address.

However, If you would not mind sending an email to Ivancampo@guillembalague.com we have set up an account for him so that he can receive, and will hopefully reply to your words.

I can assure you that, having spoken at length with Ivan regarding this matter, he will be very much appreciate hearing from you

Thank You
