Can't really see how it's Megsons fault only 2 players showed up, perhaps he could be accused of giving them too much credit and trusting them to turn up.

As previous posts on this thread have stated, it appears Megson asked for the event to be kept away from a weekend so it does not clash with fixtures.

 

If 2 of players can turn up, all of them should have been there.

 

 

Under Big Sam, the traditional Sunday morning family fun day, saw all the first team squad there. For me, it seems to boil down to the boss not enforcing a compulsory need to attend.

 

Being left to a voluntary decision, we have seen the true face of todays professional footballer.

Jesus, I never heard so much moaning about a bloody family fun day. So it was on the thursday and yes people work but the only people that I know who can't book time off are teachers - most us have flexibility with holidays and if you can't take the day off becasue of deadlines etc can't your other half take the kids or the grandparents?

 

Makes perfect sense to me to tie in the funday with the launch of the kit - usually everyone moans that the marketing dept isn't proactive enough. I'd have by bollocks put through the grinder if I didn't tie events up with direct selling opportunities to a capative and core market.

 

And as for the players not turning up, not brilliant but not a total disaster, hardly enough to hang the coach, board, manager, players etc - I heard the rest of the day was pretty good.

So then why are so bothered if they trun up en masse or not? I don't take issue with the fact its a bad do not to show but it should hardly be treated with such grativas. Two players turned up, fair fcks to them, I don't think the whole squad should have been made to attend under a three line whip.

On a more positive note, well done to Steinsson for showing up, shows that he cares about the fans and is passionate about BWFC IMO.

No way is any of this Megsons fault. The players were allowed to go and therefore should of made the effort themselves, they shudnt need to be forced to attend. The players should want to be there, seeing all the kids made up to meet their idol should be enough persuasion. The same kids that wear the shirts with their names on and worship their every move.

Steinsson is a different kettle of fish to probably any other footballer we've had at the club for a long time. Considering the route he took to become a professional footballer, the guy knows just how fortunate he is. I'm guessing that he'll be the one who turns up to every event. He's already the one who seems to linger the longest with the fans at the end of a game.

I think that that's the only positive thing to come out of this unorganised PR disaster. Without this bloke we are just A.N. Other corporate monster but run at this level by people who don't have the business acumen to run a sweet shop.

 

You can't blame the lads who have just signed, especially from other countries as they won't be familiar with the culture of the club but those that have been here years and will be wanting testimonials etc. should be taking stick.

You're missing my point, which is that they are only footballers and are therefore nothing without the fans - what they do has no worth - literally NO worth - in and of itself. Any footballer who forgets that and thinks themselves above the fans can get f?cked.

If for some reason having the players there was a bad idea, or the timing was all wrong or summat, or even if Megson is simply against it, then fine - tell people that and leave under them no illusions. But to do otherwise is simple unprofessional shabby shite of the highest order.

This is a football club that relies on its supporters, the club have said what a difference it made at the end of the season when everyone pulled together.

 

I could almost understand it if the club had the players on a strict training regime and did not want them to break off, but given it was up to each one of them this clearly was nt the case.

 

I was planning to take a day off and bring the young lad over for the day as it was his b'day. As it was they were on a trip with some other kids so did not bother.

 

I know players have their own lives but they get paid a shed load of money and seem happy enough to milk the fans praise when they score etc.

 

I wonder what they had on yesterday that was more important than tunring and making a few kids day ?

 

It is sad that some people are of the attiude 'ah well that is what happens these day' a bit like saying 'it stings when i piss and it comes out red...ah well that is what happens these days.'

 

Surely the idea of tying a fun day into the shirt launch is to get more people there to buy things from the shop, and surely having more players there would also help to get more people along ?

Under BSA the three-line-whip was applied and they all attended the family fun day on mass. Maybe Sam knew, that left to their own decision - what we saw yesterday would result.

 

 

Carlos makes a good point about the testimonials - we should remember this when Jussi, Gardner and Nolan are trying to rally interest for the match(es) to mark their 10 years of service.

I'm Itk on this one. The club realised the shirts are shit, they organised the fun day, decided not to ask the players to turn up, then they gave the shirts away for nowt. This helps solve a massive stock problem in the happy shop. The club can now order 30,000 scarves to sell before the start of the season.

INDEED HE IS , I RUN A KIDS FOOTBALL TEAM AT MOSS BANK , STEINSSON TURNS UP UNANNOUNCED AND JUST JOINS IN COACHING AND PLAYING WITH THE KIDS , NO HEIRS OR GRACES , HE JUST ENJOYS IT .

yep our hopefully 2nd choice keeper is due a testimonal soon. Wont be a PR disaster in our house, we aint going. *
