If you look at all the players that we have ben linked with bar Robinson, other bigger clubs we more resources have delared an interest, therefore it is going to be very difficult for Megson to bring in the players he wants, I hope that the fans appreciate these difficulties, we are not a big draw for players so let us hope we get patience from our supporters.

C'mon, Mounts, I usually agree with you but let's not be too defeatist before we even start recruiting.

We're starting a ninth successive season in the Prem, we have a great & long history & tradition, we're a family club, we're in a decent location close to airport, motorways, open countryside ........ the club has to sell itself & the town. We are not a big draw nor as big resources as ... compared to which clubs ? Neighbours Blackburn & Wigan & Burnley ? North & West Midlands black-holes like Wolves & Stoke ? Back-of-beyond newcomers like Hull ? Megson's backroom team need to go out there persuading, not cap in hand. Assuming they have some sort of transfer/wages fund. Of course it'll be difficult and we have to be realistic - life's difficult anyway. Chin up !

Fully agree there are a lot of positives for Bolton I am just trying to put a touch of realism into peoples expectations.

Be it newspaper talk, shite websites or agents name dropping but what is good is that we are being linked with quite a few players at the moment.

As Rembrandt said, many of these players, we are competing with clubs of a similar size and budget to ourselves - which hopefully means that we should be able to be in with a shout of signing the said player.

But as Mounts quote leads to, its early days in the summer transfer window madness and we will be linked with many more players before we reach the end of August. We have to be realistic in which of many rumours will come true.

Yeah, I'm noting the rumours but not believing anything until that pic in the Reebok with scarf on t'official site.

One other selling point for Megson's backroom boys should be how we've resurrected careers like Gudjohnsen, Anelka, Diouf, Djorkaeff; and brought on careers like Jussi, Gardner, Nolan (?) and Cahill. Joining Bolton isn't a fall into some 'little club' football abyss.

Sh*t ....... I should be in Marketing !

As much as I like Davies I would be very tempted to sell him for that money, however I would get 2 strikers in before letting him go

We've been linked with Gelson Fernandes again.

Gelson Fernandes' agent has revealed several clubs are chasing the unsettled Manchester City midfielder.

The Switzerland international started just three Premier League games last season after being pushed on to the fringes of Mark Hughes' plans by a raft of big-money signings.

Fernandes has admitted he will have to consider his future at City, with Premier League trio Bolton, Fulham and Portsmouth all linked with bids.

but we'll have to battle Pompey and they're huge piles of cash again

I know he has been brilliant for us but 33 years old next year, could be time to move on.

Not for me mounts

Doesn't have any pace to lose, so there's no reason he should be any less a player any time soon

I think that I agree with you, but I can't fully make my mind up. Don't get me wrong Davies is one of my favourite Bolton players in all my time watching them, he opitomises everything that I want my team to stand for, and he even added goals last season. One side of me wants to see Davies end his career here and become a coach and pass his way of playing on.

However, the other side of me thinks that the way that we play, the formations we choose and the other players on the pitch could all benefit if Davies moved on. If, and it's a big if, we could get 2 forwards in, somebody like Cisse, somebody who could play in a front 2, somebody with pace I honestly think we could be a better side. With the addition of a right winger then we could adapt far better to both the 442 and 433 formations. I don't believe that Elmander and Davies can play upfront in a front 2 effectively, and I also don't believe that they can play in a 433 and still get the most out of them both as neither play well wide on the right. The departure of Davies would also not give the players the easy option of the hopeful lump forward. ?4m would also be very generous for a player that is 33 next year.

Don't get me wrong I would be devastated if he ever left, and it would be so wrong seeing him in another teams shirt, he would be a great loss as our captain (although it would open the way for Cahill) and I would be more than happy to still see him in a Bolton shirt next year, BUT if the right money was offered, and the right players could be brought in, then I could see why it may be considered.

pretty much sums up my feelings except bringing in mercenary like cisse in place of a good honest and loyal english player like Davies does not fill me with joy.

I understand that Mounts, but whoever we would replace Kev with would have to be a different kind of player, if it wasn't then they too would not fit into formations etc, and then we may as well have kept hold of Kev.

Just had word that the Hull after Davies story is definatley true but he is unlikely to go. TBH i think theyve got a cheek offering ?4 million

They offered 3 last year, so in a couple of years, ?6m for a 34 year old will be about right!

I suppose it would also depend on the length of the contract offered as well, if it was 4 years or something, then Davies might be tempted

Is it just me or does this player just not set the pulses racing, Ineffective, lightweight and another Dzemali in waiting. C'mon Meggers, stay away from this one, we can do better!

Spot on CWP, it won't be Hull as a club and a location that attracts Davies - it will be the length of contract.

Family men like Davies don't get their heads spun by the increase of salary. My mate who knows the Davies's very well has told me that the only thing that would tempt him to leave Bolton is if he was offered a significantly longer contract at another club.

Not sure what Davies is on at Bolton but I can roughly recall that he signed an extended contract either last summer or the summer of 2007. Either way, I reckon we need to revisit the length of that contract and look to extend it - maybe with some coaching at the youth levels involved to help him along with his badges.

If Elmander had had a blistering season and was looking shit-hot, then ?4M for Davies is worth considering but as we know, that ain't the case!

i'd take 4m for davies in a shot, mainly due to his age.

although its a massive gamble, i think this will allow to team to develop.

Will surprise some this, but I wouldn't.

Our plan B is not very well developed and facing the prospect of replacing Davies and the style of play in one summer could lead to a disaster next season.

Keep Davies and keep the long term development of Bolton Wanderers. The bloke is a model professional who can only leave a positive impact on the set-up at all levels with Bolton Wanderers. I do hope his career with us long continues after his playing days.

We'd go down without Davies - he's that important to us.
