bignickpendle Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Signed an extension until 2012 acording to NOTW http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/foot...g-managers.html I'm sure he signed the new deal after the interest from Celtic for their managers role for which I believe he was odds on favourite for at one point. Could be wrong.

superjohnmcginlay Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 Anyone got the Gretna highlights at all??
bolty58 Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Not wanting to piss on the chips like but, I would be slightly disappointed if this went through. Yes, can see the former hero bit and popularity with the fans but, is a manager with half a first season in the Prem behind him really what we want? Half a first season that includes the customary 'first season blush' good results (which we have seen over and over again with other clubs) plus an abysmal away record. Everybody was screaming for Phil Brown a year ago. I wouldn't want him either. Sorry, an unproven Prem manager is not what we need IMO. Rght choice needed to ensure Prem survival.

bolty58 Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 At the risk of repeating myself (and, like con Boutsianos, this is something I never do), Mark Hughes or Alan Curbishley. Pick holes at will.

All points taken, and he's not my first choice either. But Burnley are above us, with let's face it a squad not as good as ours, because he's obviously a good motivator. Who exactly do you think would come who is better? Hughes, maybe, but after that we are in the realms of Reid or Jewell, don't fancy that much (but will support whoever it may be).

Pick holes at will. Cross-over of posts, question answered, fair enough. Hughes, yes Curbishley, not sure, but better than lots of the other so-called 'candidates' (Jewell, Southgate et al).

Mark Hughes wont come here. He has nothing to prove. He doesn't need the pin money that we could pay. He will hold out for, dare I say it, a bigger club. As for Curbs, I very much doubt this also. He has made a career from getting relagated or just surviving season upon season. He has been out of the loop too long to be tempted by us. A cockerney who wouldn't come up north. Of similar calibre to Megson IMO

Sorry Chief but I don't see them being 2 points ahead of us with us having two games in hand on them as resounding proof that Coyle should be our choice. I believe Hughes would fit the BWFC profile perfectly. Tough and uncompromising. Don't know if he'd come. Suspect that, based on previous unambitious and uninspiring appointments, we wouldn't even approach him. Similar story with Curbs. Not sure he'd come up north. Like you, I am fearing (and half expecting) an 'el cheapo' choice like Reidy, Southgate or Jewell. I hope I am completely wrong with this.

Think we are agreeing basically, Hughes my choice by a mile, for all the reasons you mention. I think the fact he's currently out of work, and there are no obvious potential vacancies at the top 8 or 9 clubs in England, may give us a chance. But he could go abroad, quite easily. Curbishley better than many of the other candidates IMO, but he won't come North. PS I got 'The Best of Booker T and the MG's' and 'Al Green Explores Your Mind' for Xmas. Not asked for, well remembered by Mrs Wiggum

no balls Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/...Owen-Coyle.html Bolton are expected to make a formal approach in the next 48 hours for Owen Coyle, the Burnley manager, as they step up their search for Gary Megson's replacement. I hope the writers are right on the one hand, but on the other, I hope these aren't the other contenders. Darren Ferguson, Alan Curbishley and Peter Reid, Tony Pulis's assistant at Stoke, all have a measure of support within the club's hierarchy, Coyle is believed to be Gartside's and club owner Eddie Davies's first choice.
Guest bwfcdan Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 (edited) Perfect song for the Burnley board regarding Coyle.... Republica - Burnley im ready to go :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3BmxjhmN20...feature=related Edited January 1, 2010 by bwfcdan

Says who? I haven't seen anything, anywhere, ruling them both out of the running for the job. Just out of curiosity, who do you want?
Guest bwfcdan Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Says who? I haven't seen anything, anywhere, ruling them both out of the running for the job. Just out of curiosity, who do you want? Was on sky sports news that Hughes didnt want the job, i cant remember where i read it but there was something about Curbishley not wanted to uproot his family up north.. think it was when the Newcastle job was going last season... i would love Hughes to come but i dont think it will happen.. so in my opinion to get the fans back on side with the board Coyle is the next best thing...

Ani, the chief has impeccable taste. I own one of those two albums misen. Never lose his friendship, sir. You could learn a lot about exquisite taste from this man Dan - I believe you. I have doubts too about my preferred two candidates and, with this in mind, would take former hero Coyle over most of the other sh?tkickers in the frame. All will become clear and, I do have contacts with the odd (is there any other kind?) 6 fingered mutant down here and would enjoy rubbing their noses in it if we steal our man back. The Suicide Squad might be aptly named if it comes to pass
