I often read a book after enjoying the film as I find doing it the other way round often makes the film a letdown.

 

So films that aren't a patch on the book.

 

I Am Legend - Film doesn't really focus on Will Smith being the baddie so the audience has to do less thinking.

 

The Hannibal Lector Trilogy - Not including Hannibal Rising as although I have it I haven't read it yet. I haven't got time to list the differences there are so many, from central characters being totally written out to endings being totally changed.... Why???

 

Angels and Demons - Again central characters totally written out and massive plot changes.

 

Just got Shutter Island so will report back on that one.

Pretty much every comic book film ever made barring a few recent ones have tried changing charachters and basic plotlines to make them more hollywood friendly.

 

V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Electra, Daredevil and campy 70's batman are all quite removed from the original comic books.

 

Christopher Nolan's take on Batman has been fantastic though.

 

as were the 1st 2 xmen films (Vinny jones and his 'I'm the Juggernaut bitch' line destroyed Xmen3) and Iron man

I read The Running Man by Richard Bachman (stephen king) after being a fan of the 80s film, The book is differnt to the film and by far and away better.

 

Rita Heyworth and The Shawshank Redemption and The Body which is Stand By Me from the book Different Seasons by Stephen King I thought the films were better than the book

donnie brascoe, the book just has so much more in it. but i suppose that is usually the case.

I'm with whoever on here said Slumdog Millionaire was bobbins, but the book, Q&A is fantastic.

 

All of the Hannibal books are amazing - as is Trainspotting if you haven't read it. Love the film but the book is totally different, especially Renton's character....

 

If you haven't read Shantaram yet, be quick. It's being made into a film starring Jonny Depp and will no doubt get murdered on the process. Too much happens to cram into 2 hours....

Kite Runner and Time Travellers Wife but I've never known a film be anywhere near as good as a book

Breaking Vegas was infinatly better than the film (21) which was dogwank.

I Am Legend is an ok cinematic piece but it can only be loosely based on the book. The film completely misses the point of the novel. The books a must read and really quite short too.

 

Trainspotting the book is brilliant but I do think the film does the book justice which is usually quite a rarity.

 

King's Salems Lot, good read but a shocking film.

Don't know if you've read it, but 'The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test' by Tom Wolfe is being turned into a motion picture next year I believe. Don't have high hopes for that one.

Books are always far better than the films because, simply, you cannot fit everything that has been wriiten in a book into a 2 hour movie.so plots, characters, ect have to be trimmed down. Also films that have been based on a novel will actually bear no resembalance to the original book.

I used to like Noah's Ark when i was a kid, but i prefer the film version, Evan Almighty.
