England V German

With England finally finding themselves during the last game and the Germans possibly losing their holding/creative midfield player it's looking good but don't forget this is England and we love to do it the hard way.

Tense game with 2 early goals and a late one from us to clinch the game.

Capello - Clueless tactically, no width even with wingers, chose Upson over Dawson, Carragher and Cahill, brought on Heskey when we needed goals and not Crouch who's goal record is better than any other current striker. Failed to play Cole throughout the tournament. Seems also to have lost the dressing room. Persisted with Johnson who was totally exposed yesterday. Vowed to pick form players yet chose injured Barry over Scott Parker, or even Muamba.

the man who picked the team, tactics and made the substitutions must carry the can!!

And that'll make three managers that have had to carry the can for this shower of shite.

Fabio got tough with them - they f*cked it up.

McClaren called them all by their pet names and let them do what they want - they f*cked it up.

Sven was probably somewhere in between - they f*cked it up.

Don't get me wrong, some of the selections were a bit mystifying. Upson is a bad un, Heskey is a (barely) running joke and I'm yet to fully grasp the deification of Gareth Barry, but the shortcomings don't stop there, do they?

Terry was all over the place yesterday and it isn't just because he was next to Upson, it's because he has nowhere to hide in an England shirt.

Gerrard played everywhere bar where he was supposed to, which left Ashley Cole a bit of a job on.

Cole's solution was to bomb on cluelessly and leave great sweeping spaces in behind for Ozil to exploit.

Johnson was guilty of being thick as shit, too, but had the disadvantage of not being a very good footballer to go with it. Trouble is, we didn't have anyone else, did we?

Lampard shoots. He doesn't bring much else to the side other that pulling his tongue out a lot, as far as I can see.

Rooney has barely had a kick all tournament.

And Christ, please let's not pretend that Joe Cole, Carragher, Dawson, Cahill, Parker or even Fabrice bloody Muamba would have saved the day.

The commentator's assertion that only one, maybe two, of the Germany side would get in the England team sums up just how delusional the country has become when it comes to the national game.

Press conference on now, Capello wants to stay the FA are deciding his future and the players where tired!!!

Hate to say it, but the skiprat talks sense every now and again

He makes some fair points yes i agree as well. I too am not entirely convinced about his Englands credentials either to be honest, but hes certainly better than that clown who played at the side of Terry yesterday. Without question

Spot on post that Enzo.

We had the same delusion from the players after Croatia beat us home & away in the qualifiers for Euro 2008. So why did they beat you then lads? If you don't admit there is a problem you will never solve it so expect a similar debacle in four years time.

I actually shouted "F off" rather loudly at the television when he said that.

Press conference on now, Capello wants to stay the FA are deciding his future and the players where tired!!!

Before we know it, they'll be wanting to reduce the Prem to 16 clubs - and taking the opportunity to get rid of Bolton, Wigan, Blackpool, Blackburn and maybe even Fulham. Then the big clubs can visit the USA and China etc on more money-spinning tours.

Tired my a*se ! Other Europeans have top leagues as big. And the Brazilians, and maybe the Argentines, play as many games a year.

We need to look at the next generation now. England was the Oldest team at the tournament.

Having so many household name's, everyone knows how they play. Maybe the lesser known Kids will be a bit unknown.

Surely some of our sao called "Next Big Things" need looking at ??

You tend to see the South American Countries throw their kids in, and on quite a number of occasions, they dont get a 2nd or 3rd cap

till a few years later after development. Maybe thei is to get them in, take a look, and see how and were they need to develop.

Its ok looking superb for a team at lower prem level, but you need more than a big of talent to make the International step up. So looking at them early, rather than waiting for United / Cheslea / Arsenal to spend fortune's on them, THEN giving them a go, should be the way to go.

gareth barry made me laugh.

the defensive midfielder who was meant to sit and protect the back 4, did anything but sit and protect the back four.

i certainly take pablos point onboard, but muamba would have done a far better job. worzel wouldnt have got a sniff...

All Muamba can do is break up play and he's fucking good at it.

That was Barry's job yesterday and he was shit at it.

Barry can do a lot of other things better than Muamba but lacked the discipline. For that, I blame the manager. Should Muamba have been there instead? Probably not. Engerland would fucking destroy him as he can't run, pass or shoot particularly well. Our lot are on his back enough without the rest of the country.

Carlos stole my thunder a bit their.

Muamba is good, and even if one day hes DOES get the England call, England and the coaches will soon, coach all that good work out of him.

Who knows though really untill they get given a chance, Parker should have been nailed on to be at that World Cup, but maybe he should have got more of a chance 7 / 8 years ago when he was ripping up tree's at Charlton....!

One of the main points of failure for me, is the Lampard / Gerrard situation....I have a solution...DROP THEM BOTH.The likes of Wilshire / Muamba / Parker / Cattermol / Rodwell etc. Need to be looked at.

dont disagree. he currenlty doesnt have enough to his game to be considered.

my point was mainly about barry be totally useless.

even though i think he is good enough to do such a job, he (or the manager) let himself (him) down.

Neuer, Ozil, Boteang, and Kadheria played for the Germany U21's side that hammered our 21's where we had Milner. Not saying the our youth would've made any difference however least it shows the Germans are not afraid to breed young talent,

does this not explain that?

Other teams seem to change their Formation to whatever fits the players, we force players into a formation.

Not many teams even play 442 in the Prem.

does this not explain that?

The point is that they are given a chance very rarely does any youth get a chance at senior level.

Also a side point. Did our coaches / Scouts / management not know about Germany, and about Ozil etc ???? Really didint seem like it!

Because even before this game, David Moyes in the paper he writtes for said, he has dozens of reports on Ozil and almost every single German player, and most of the other players at the World Cup...thats why only Everton and Arsenal are the only 2 Clubs from the prem without Scouts in SA.

I think just Villa, and that may be because of the pace they have in their squad allows it.

The joke is the amount of England players who've been linked with Real Madrid recently, fuck me, there's more chance of Diddles being next chairman of BP.

Why pay to send a scout when you're going yourself?

I really must read to the end of a thread.

Keane's right in a sense but it was Capello that picked the players that Keane is suggesting shouldn't have been there.

In my opinion he failed to pick players who were in form and relied too much on the few "star" players in the hope they could excel.

I can't say i entirely agree with keanes opinion tbh,Capello has to shoulder some of the blame shirley?

The bloke made some massive mistakes during this disastrous campaign -

1,He said he would only pick players who were "in form" - he clearly didn't.

2,Stuck rigidly to the archaic 442 formation- when most decent sides are more flexible.

3,Had no plan B when things weren't working.

4,He made "like for like substitutions" that smacked of desperation.

5,He couldn't motivate the players.

Having said that, the players must also share the blame....cos man for man - they didn't perform throughout the tournament.

who would you have taken who could realistically make a difference baesed upon experience?

Not the usual SKD would be a better choice than Heskey. The qualification results and performances showed that England perform well against sides when Heskey partners Rooney.

Darren Bent scored for fun for Sun'lun but has looked massively lost when in an England shirt.

england just don't have enough high caliber players to realistically challenge for world honours.

Perhaps capello could have changed formation but the only change to the 11 would've been Cole/Lennon in for Defoe/Heskey that still wouldn't account for England players failure to find an England player with even the most basic of passes.
