Kane57 Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 The newest Godzilla film has leaked out. Plot isn't worth a sniff but visually it's very impressive Quote
Smiley Posted July 28, 2019 Author Posted July 28, 2019 Managed to watch on Netflix last night - Made in America - Tom Cruise playing the part of Barry Seal. Decent enough film. 7/10. Quote
jayjayoghani Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Icarus. Documentary about Russian state sponsored doping. Very good. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Not brand new films perhaps; but watched 'instrument of war' and '12 strong' recently: both good. Quote
DavidLeesMullet Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Phantom Of The Paradise, a kind of Glam Rock version of Phantom Of The Opera / Faust, 45 years old and a cult classic along the lines of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Current favorite though is Tommy Wiseau's 2003 disaster piece, The Room, a so-bad-it's-good classic. Quote

I know he got an Oscar, but Jeff Bridges just plays a more serious 'The Dude'. That Maggie Gyellnehall (or however you spell it) is a cracker though. Check her out in the film Secretary, and set your face to 'Stunned'!!! Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 "Into the mud scum queen", is up there with "you're gonna need a bigger boat" for me. Classic. Quote

Matt Lofthouse Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 On a really bad run on Netflix: Sully - shite, flitting all over the place. Not one of Tom hanks best. the cobbler - so fucking bad it’s laughable. Hangover 3 - shite, one film too many. Quote

Not Bradley Cooper’s finest performance. Quote
Matt Lofthouse Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 (edited) Unbroken - Fantastic, best I’ve seen of it’s type since hacksaw ridge. Edit: made before HR 2014. Edited August 14, 2019 by Matt Quote

Wasn't the immortal line "Oh no, I couldn't fuck a gorilla" in that? Decades since I saw that movie but looking it up now you've reminded me. Edited August 15, 2019 by bolty58 Quote
L/H White Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 (edited) now then, De Niro, Pesci, Al pacino & Stephen Graham Edited August 15, 2019 by L/H White Quote

Throw the Haunting of Sharon Tate into that mix..... its kinda ok right up until the last 15 minutes - and then goes totally off-kilter. Bizarre. Quote

Was going to say virtually the same. Bake virtually unrecognisable and does it well but not a right lot happens unfortunately. Watched it on a plane flying over Iraq, funnily enough. Quote
DavidLeesMullet Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) Yes it was, along with the classic little girl hospital phone message ("It's an epidermal haematoma, ha!!!") , the over stringent drink drive test and the stunning looking prostitute with the annoying voice ("Duke of Oyal") to name but a few scenes. Also check out The Jerk, and Roxanne, probably Steve Martin's other two classic movies. Edit: Can't believe I forgot Pointy Birds by John Lillison, the famous one armed poet,!!! However love the original Toho "Men in badly fitting rubber suits trashing scale models of Tokyo" from the 50s, 60s and 70s, especially the original version of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters and Son Of Godzilla.
