Just a few - Trevor Francis guested for Wollongong Wolves for around 3 games shortly after we arrived in 1988. The first home game he played was against Sydney Croatia. Took along my then 5 year old son. They came down from Sydney mob handed. No segregation, you could walk all around the stadium. Fooking loons were armed with sickles to a man. Police wouldn't go near em. Smoke bombs, flares etc. Madness. All the locals fooked off home and left them to it. On another occasion, I was playing Macedonians in an indoor Grand Final. They turned up with a drunken mob of supporters - one of whom was threatening to fire an air pistol at the referee from the moment he walked on to the pitch. Mass brawl erupted when we went 1-0 up. Police called, match abandoned, referee assaulted, me and a sweaty backed into a corner by about 20 of em but no surrender (the three Aussies in the team did a runner and left us!) With all the turmoil they have had down there, it seems they place very little value on human life. Being fair - I have met some decent ones from that neck of the woods. Jumbo for instance. When someone like Hitler labels you 'Untermenschen', you must be seriously fcuked up.

I went Yugoslavia about 25 years ago, the part which is now Croatia, we got challenged for a 5 a side footy game with the hotel staff, the tackles what went in were untrue, gravel rash city. Losing 0-4 at H/T, we came back and made it more respectable with a 3-4 defeat. Hard has nails but honest as fuck those Yugos at the time. Just laughing at that term Bolty, about Hitler calling them Sub- human, and undermen. Surprised that Thatchers spin doctors didn't coin the phrase at the time for us. He's told me quite a few stories and none of them put them in a good light to put it mildly (from any side) - "a proper set of horrible cunts" is the phrase he uses often when talking of them.
