bear in mind Coyle will only play 4-4-2 and rarely if ever play players out of position

 

 

That's the nub of the matter for me, and we have to accept it as long as he's manager at the Reebok. Any suggestions for change have to recognise that.

 

Just a few of other points ....

I don't understand having an on-pitch team captain who appears never to speak to his team mates. Robbo would be a better bet.

Despite his more promising form earlier in the season, I don't think Muamba is the answer to anything in a 4-4-2 midfield.

Likewise Ricketts isn't a Prem right-back, whatever his other qualities.

Mark Davies is a good attacking midfielder but doesn't knit the play together like Holden does; he needs more experience.

Petrov whipped in a number of gilt-edged crosses in his cameo appearance (you don't have to beat your full-back to do that), but our other forwards weren't tempted and rarely make near post runs anyway.

We seemed to have 6-7 players back defending their goal (I'll check on TV later), but sadly all were standing in a group around the penalty area semi-circle - none were defending wide.

Too many ball-watchers and few picking up the runners coming through or the one-two passing movements.

Our corner, throw-in and attacking free-kick routines are all much too predictable - no variety whatsoever.

I don't see why we should look any more tired than say Blackpool or West Brom or Fulham; few Prem clubs have big squads.

 

Nothing much new in all that - win or lose. All IMHO, of course.

 

On the plus side ...... it was no worse than I expected, I got the 1-1 scoreline right (send prize to ... ), we didn't lose, we reached 30 points with 16 games to go, we did more than enough to win the game without playing well for 80% of it, half of the players had a decent game at least, and we didn't pick up any more cards.

 

Let's see off York, get something at Stoke, and then give it a go against Chelski (even a Reebok goal against them would be something rare).

As Rembrandt pointed out, don't think Davies should be captain, not because of his ability before you all start, but I'm a firm believer that your captain should be your centre half and have a big gob. The defender sees all what's in front of him and reads a game better

Nor would I burden Knight with it.

well west brom have just lost 4 in a row after a good start so maybe it's catching up with them too

I've been led to believe from trusted sources that Coyle's training is mainly made up for players playing 5 a side and expressing themselves

 

perhaps the methods that alladyce used to use in terms of fitness and what not (and let's face, back then our players were fitter) are not adpoted under coyle and it's all about the football, passing and moving

 

so whilst he may need to reconsider tactics, maybe there's other aspects of the modern day athleticsm he needs to address too

Or running around like a headless chicken. Last night it was comical at times. Remember that game you played at School with somebody in the middle and the rest of you trying to keep the ball off him? That's what Muamba looked like last night. If he could read the game better, he could intercept a pass instead of chasing after somebody who's got the ball and trying to get a foot in. In possession, he's a liability at times.

 

Don't get me wrong, he's had some good games over the last 12 months - but he's one of those players who you can watch play a game for 20 minutes before deciding whether he'll have an impact or not. He just doesn't seem able to adapt into games which don't suit his best attributes. Think there's a strong case for a Holden/Davies midfield once Holden's back from injury.

 

Our Fab needs a rest.

Not for me - I think he's having a cracking season, but can't see him as our captain. I don't see the problem with leaving it how it is to be honest.

To be fair - I was out of the country for that game and didn't get to see it in full, so you're in a better position to judge. Still - they've only had 60 minutes together and I'd be shocked if Mark Davies played as poorly in the Blackburn game as Muamba did last night. I'm not just having a pop at Muamba here - I just think he could benefit from a spell on the sidelines.

I think, in fairness, Coyle wanted to rest Muamba and give the Davies/Holden combination a go, but MD got sent off and now SH is injured.

He didn't, he was arguably our best player. He was busy and kept possession well.

Great post, cheered me up after the dissapointment of last night, well done.

 

Highlight for me last night was the way this bloke was holding his foam hand when he was tuning his radio, I shouldn't find it funny at my age , but I did.

Having been fortunate enough to get an invite into the players lounge before/after the game on Wed eve it was clear to see the captains job is more than what happens on the pitch. SKD is clearly respected by players, officials and fans. He is a great ambassador for the club/town with his charity work. As a few of the players wandered in in their jeans and cardigans the aura of SKD in his BWFC suit/tie was immeasuarble, he came over and had a chat and spoke respectfully and passionately about the club/fans/town. And as mentioned above on the pitch he can't be doing that bad a job considering our present position.

 

IMO right man for the right job

 

PS The way Klasnic was looking and talking I reckon he should be fit for Saturday!
