Non League Chatter

A few weeks away yet, but this could be the biggest attendance Victory Park have had for many a year with it being a title cruncher. Come on Chester beat those Leigh stealing body-snatchers.

A date for your diaries, on Saturday 4th July Atherton Collieries will play Bolton Wanderers, Neil Lennon has said he will bring a good squad down

  • I'm very fair and even handed on this one. I hate both sets of cunts.

It clearly doesn't need two teams, but neither does Manchester. Why don't City and United merge to form the biggest club in the world?

The two Manchester teams are financially viable though, and aren't limited in what they can achieve. As mentioned above, Colls know they've hit their ceiling and most likely will never get any higher, so unless they always want to be down at a low(ish) level, then they will need to do something

The Manchester teams have hit a ceiling, winning fuck all again. Atherton can't support a club at a higher level with so many league clubs around. They are at an extremely high level, relatively, you just have to accept you aren't going to be playing Barcelona ever.

Total guesswork on my behalf but typical, I'd say 5k a week.

Just trying to give it some context in my head.

Company I used to wrok for sponsored a scottish championship side so we got friendly with the board of directors and their annual wage budget was 400k per year. And your estimate would be 260k for a northern premier side.

just shows the huge disparity eh

Salford were non-League last season when they persuaded an SPL player (Adam Rooney, I think) to come South for a 400k per year salary.

I’d like to see how much money Andy Pilley  chucked at fleetwood to get them where they are now.

They couldn’t have been much bigger than Colls.

They lost £6m last season alone, I heard.

The rise of Fleetwood, Morecambe and Accrington to league status is quite astounding.

Connor Hall not ruled out signing for Chorley again, would be great move especially if they get a reprieve.

I heard Chorley are desperate to drop back a level again, NL is a step too far at moment?

I know they’re pretty skint but their chairman said last week that they hope to stay up, well have to see

Not sure why they would want to drop back a division, what’s the point in that, would you then try and finish mid table to avoid promotion

It does seem strange to want to get relegated........unless they want to win nearly every week and have some cracking aways 😀

Harrogate had a run of about 6 years in a row in Conference North where they were one of the front runners for most of the season and then mysteriously bottled it in the play offs every time. Only changed when the owner starting chucking money about.

It's been the case for many teams in the North East over the years, bottled it at the end to stay down

It must be a weird feeling knowing that promotion would ruin your club, even more weird hoping that you get relegated so that you can survive

Many clubs have done that, Vauxhall Motor was a good side in the NP with a decent ground and clubhouse and opted to go and play in the Cheshire League, bosses at Ellesmere Port must have knew what was coming.

We at  Colls know we are punching above our weight but I wouldn't wish us to go down

Rammy chairman has been pretty open about how much easier life is in the north west counties if they go down. Fans seem to periodically fall out with him over that and other stuff, lost loads of sponsors and fans. I always found him a bit of a character and a decent bloke though to be honest

Got to be careful what he wishes for on that front as NWCFL Prem arguably has a bigger footprint than the regionalised NPL Div One these days.

Must be very difficult to find a viable sponsor who shares the chairman’s lack of ambition.

The problem at this level is people don't actually know what they are wishing for when they romanticise about the past. I doubt Harry at Rammy and co have actually looked at a Counties league table for years or have a clue how they'd get supporters and sponsorship in for a game against Avro or Rylands (picking 2 teams who came from Cheshire League).

Harry seems to periodically fall out with sponsors. I'll say this is allegedly because I've heard it from the sponsor and not Harry's side of events but they sponsored a stand on something like a 3 year contract, they arrived for a match to find that the stand had been renamed after an ex player or board member. They weren't impressed and go watching Lancaster now after being home and awayers for a few years at rammy. I organised a day out in the sponsors lounge with a few mates couple of years back only to be told few days before it was cancelled, that was due to the manager at the time but it gives you an idea of how amateur it is down there. It's a shame because there's some really good people who go watching them and the ground is brilliant. With a bit if effort theyve got a good catchment area and could do well but I think harry is reluctant to give others control besides the ex manager (which was a massive misjudgment of character he pissed off a lot of fans). If I compare Rammy to team I watch since I've moved and it's like comparing chorley to a prem club, yet rammy are higher up. It's a great day out Rammy though, cricket club bar is nice and steam train on the beer is a great way to get there.

Yep watched prestwich heys quite a bit chairman was a really good bloke and desperate to push them on. Was going round bars, shops and businesses getting nowhere, they couldn't even get the shirts sponsored. They were great down there as well really proactive board but struggling to get outside sponsorship in north west counties.
