I was just going to post about that.

 

Almost as soon as they went on sale we were told they were sold out. Last Monday I looked on the ticket thing and two of the ?60 blocks had gone from sold out to good availability.

 

Seems like quite a cock up.

It's big, even compared to the Allianz Arena, Old Trafford and the Millennium. Not as big as the Camp Nou though. I was interested in where the money had gone, and compared to the Emirates, I'm fucked if I know. The workmanship was poor, half the lights were out, the sink didn't work, you wouldn't accept that on a house or office. Lastly, there weren't enough bogs or food and drink kiosks for a "world class" stadium.

 

 

Money - concrete repours, putting the arch up several times, underpinning, groundworks surveys originally being inadequate & so groundworks being more expensive, remedial works. Marble in the non-oik areas, more underpinning. Mostly stuff that isn't visible to yer man or woman in the street.

HOK Sport Architecture were jointly responsible for the design of the new Wembley Stadium. They're the same company that designed the Reebok Stadium.

You're adding half again to the capacity of the Emirates and building it above it i.e. the upper tier. You're adding nigh on a 1km long high rise building

Acoustics are a bit weird. Their lot didn't sound all that loud from the upper tier even when they were all singing. Any louder in the lower tier?

The stadium is awesome inside but the area around it is just waste ground. It could do with being landscaped. It is supposed to be the showcase of English football but it looks more like Beirut

I'm afraid that link is not much use for actuals Look at the date - way before construction even started, never mind the shit hitting the fan.

 

Mind you, they did save some by not bothering to comply with H&S regulations - though that backfired when someone was killed on site...

Great stadium, like others have said though, the area around the stadium could be better.

My mate who's a Liverpool fan was telling me that the clubs financial papers reveal the club have already spent almost ?50m on their new stadium - purely on consultations, designers and lawyers. Amazing.

Was there more in body than mind, due to illness, but I'm glad I've ticked it off whilst watching Bolton.

I actually noticed this as well. Massive gaps during the game. Large sections of fans missing just don't happen like that, for what was a 'sold out' section. Someone has been telling porkies....

Correct. When the engineer turned up on site and input the details then ran the lifting programme, the virtual arch collapsed as it reached it's apex.

 

Several headscratchings later it was discovered the foundations had been formed with concrete 25% weaker than designed as the groundworker/ contractor thought it would save costs. The foundations had to be cut out and re-poured costing millions in materials and lost time.

 

Also the area around is subject to a massive regeneration plan which is currently on the backburner due to the recession. Been planned for the last 15 years at least.

Probably not. Empty seats were pretty difficult to gauge in our end, though.

 

Thousands had probably given it up as a bad job without so much as sitting down.

Empty seats along the back 10-20 rows of almost every upper tier block weren't that difficult to spot!

only 3 crappers in each set of toilets is a poor do.

I was busting for a shit all day as every time i went they were either all ful or covered in shit and piss.

 

other than that a belting stadium let down by little details like the crappy ramps from Wembley Way to the stadium and the general run down industrial area around the stadium.

 

My (DMB) mate from work was in the area wit empty seats apparently it was the tickets for troops area, i guess not many squadies are bolton fans.

One toilet in each block is devoted to number twos. The first bogs I went inside had no urinals at all, just about 40 cubicles.

That block was reserved for players family and friends. All first team squad members and staff had 25 tickets (yes I really did say 25) put aside for them but they still had to buy them at face value of ?60. Only a handful of them took anywhere near the 25 allocated tickets and thus, the many empty seats in a price bracket that was "sold" out!!
