no balls Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Which part? Its simple really, generally we're too shit to get a result at Old Trafford. We've a massive cup semi final a few weeks away/we havent won a trophy for 50 odd years - Coming 7th, 9th, 10th makes little difference - hence rest some of your stars in a game you will lose 9 out of 10 times anyway and focus on trying to get to a first cup final in a generation. Any way we got whipped five zip in the semi, probably wouldnt of made much differecne if holden had played anyway...... You know people pay money out of their wages to go watching football, don't you?

frank_spencer Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Iam not talking about splashing 40 million that would be suicide, if we got 20 mill for gary cahill then use say half of that. coyle could get 2 or 3 good players along with 2 or 3 free transfers. If the rumoured figures are correct, of the 20mil Davis gets his 5m back He also gets 10% of the profit so another 2m Villa get between 10-20% as a sell on so upto 4m Plus agents fees, Cahills cut etc. Unless eddie pumps his initial 5m back in then I can't see us coming away with a great deal of money to spend.
tarian1979 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 You know people pay money out of their wages to go watching football, don't you? Yep, but to be honest would you bothered if he said he was keeping some key players fresh for a vital game fa cup semi? its something i thought he would do hence if i would have a problem watching a couple of fringe players i wouldnt buy a ticket. Simple.

Thats slightly different though as you're effectively deliberately not trying 100pc in a last 16 of a cup comp we've only been in twice.

Simple. The team sheet isn't normally announced till about an hour prior to kick off though is it? We'd have to rely on someone being ITK, which I know there's loads on here, so that'd solve the issue.

He gets 10pc of the profit? Fair enough hes pumped in etc, and fair play to him, but isnt he meant to be a Bolton fan (correct me if im wrong wihtout knowing too much about our owner)? Does Dave Whelan take ten percent of transfer profit at wigan? Id be surprised if he did.

It wouldnbt take much for the manager to say, leading up to the game, "our main focus is the cup semi at the minute" for people to then be able to read into the lines "hang on he may rest a few here". Suppose theres too much bull shit now with the fa about "picking your best 11" every game though etc for him to do that (should be able to do what you want for whatever game you want". Just like fergie should be able send out 11 kids if he wants on sunday, with a euro final the week after. Fk wigan and birm youve had 37 games to sort yourself out
TheReebokBear Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Terrible away form, but our home form is the best in our Premier League history. You can say "if our home form slips we'll go down", fine. That's probably true, but then if Spurs' home form drops they might go down. Coyle's job is to maintain our home form whilst improving our away form. If he can't do that, then he'll probably get the sack. However, if he can then we'll back up challenging for Europe next season. Coyle's home record gives him something to build on. If people would rather sack him because it "might" go wrong next season then what can you say? We probably shouldn't sign Sturridge because he might not score goals. You don't sack a manager before he's failed to do something because he 'could' fail. It's a ridiculous idea.
SpiritofBurnden Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Possibly not no, but certainly in games like man u away - pointless, gonna lose anyway. Play the percentages. Yes he could of got hurt against west ham or whoever else we played in between. No need to take a risk at man u though, write it off. So what's the point of resting a player for just one of the three games then?
bolty58 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Ive said since about 6 months after signing him his positional sense is horrific. Finally people are waking up to it. What continues to astonish me is why the club allow you to sit on your laurels? Such insight and knowledge would be of immense use to our fine club and yet we continue to rely on folk with measly F.A. badges who have played the game at a professional level to decide on signings. It's a mad, mad world mate.
Traf Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 In fairness, tarian has a point. Steinsson's recent performances have shown the positional awareness of Dusty Bin.

It was allegedly part of the deals for stumping up the cash for Cahill and Muamba that when they were sold he got back his initial investment plus a percentage of any profit made on the deal.

Traf Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 In which case, he's a liar. Steinsson had a reasonable 1st season or so. The gambling/drinking with Eidur and banging that slapper who had Rooney has affected his game since.
Carlos Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) In old numbers, our worst players have been 3-2-1. Edited May 16, 2011 by Carlos

I thought he was excellent going forward at first, thought he was dubious defensively to start and gradually its gone from dubious - not too clever - fking terrible as time has passed.
