jazza Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Fuck me, I thought i had heard and seen it all when it comes to football... I am bored and thought American league football on ESPN would be better than no football but i was wrong I am watchiung team LA Galaxy (beckham on the bench to start but he's on now) v Team Seattly something or other... used to be sounders but probably changed now A player missed a penalty and the commentator screamed... Oh no a miss from the PK spot.. the fucking PK spot? Then there was a free kick about 30 yards from goal and the fuckin ref got an aerosol of spray paint out and drew where the ten yard line was. If that happens here I am going to sack it off Fucking retards the lot of them!!
frank_spencer Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Apart from the bizarre colloquialisms the yanks use their commentators and general football coverage puts the output of sky/BBC etc in the shade. Most american leagues use the spray paint thing, they're using it in the Copa America at the moment
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Most american leagues use the spray paint thing, they're using it in the Copa America at the moment I heard they were going to trial it over in the UK as well, if you're in front of the line you get yellowed?
Didledee Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) I think it can be pretty funny. They do use words, phrases etc that are not really what you'd expect, like after this sensational freekick "Holy smokes" "lightning bolt" "upper 90" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML7Kh_Na3Tg Watching Bolton last season in America, The Bolton Wanderers win on PK's!! That was a cracking free kick! On a side note, I love the way they have a stat on the top of the screen for how many players are on each team... Wonder if they have a red card problem in the MLS?
Henrick_Pedigol Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I've been there and done it. Probably going to Toronto v fc Dallas this year aswell. You can have a beer in your seat and Toronto fans do get behind their team (standing up all match etc) but its just a poor substitution for the real thing during preseason tbh
pato Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I heard they were going to trial it over in the UK as well, if you're in front of the line you get yellowed? It's a good thing that it is just for marking out lines could you imagine if they could freestyle " Fergie you are a prick" all over the pitch
Arrested development Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I watched a bit the other day. MLS really is bizarre. New York Red Bulls forwards this season are former barca and arsenal striker Thierry Henry and...........Luke Rodgers, former Shrewsbury and Notts County striker.
Rembrandt Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I heard they were going to trial it over in the UK as well, if you're in front of the line you get yellowed? Well that'll be a big change for some Prem refs - they're not used to measuring out the 10 yards when a billy-big-balls club are defending a free-kick on the edge of their penalty area.
DazBob Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 the fucking PK spot? Yep It's in the PA. Half-way between the 6YB and the EotA. HTH.
