Second goal was Knight allowing his man to get goal side of him. He was very slow to react and a player his size should not be second to the ball with his head!

Eh? Knight was marking somebody else.

  • 2-2, but Owen will see the positives in avoiding a 4th successive defeat. After all there are no easy games in the Barclays Premier League and the margins are very tight.

  • If Coyle goes on about positives I'm going to be in need of a new tele.

  • We had 11 back defending corners AGAIN. We conceeded from 2 corners. The first they had all the time in the world, Tuncay stayed on his post and ultimately got in Jaaskelainen's way. The second was a

Correct Boyatta's man

Given we have 11 in the box, and they don't, then doesn't that mean we are "defending" zonally rather than picking up men? Obviously it doesn't work but I don't think it's as simple as picking up men. They are doing what they've been told, whatever that is, clearly it doesn't work, it hasn't worked ever. The worrying aspect is us persevering with it - utter madness.

That zonal malarky didn't seem to work when Benitez did it at Liverpool either. I'm going to use that word, naive again.

We don't zonal mark

We don't zonal mark

We don't mark at all, that's the problem! how many goals are we gonna concede this season due to pathetic defending?!?, it really is laughable, we've played some tough teams, but we have helped all of them, even Norwich.

We don't have the players to score the goals to equal out these defensive frailties, confidence will help this, but other than cahill, our defence on paper looks terrible.

We don't zonal mark

I was kind of hoping someone who actually understands the ins and outs of it would explain.

Explain what?

We don't zonal mark.

We mark man to man, badly.

as the 1st goal proves

Right, whoever was marking who, Knight or Boyata, the ball fell kindly for the Norwich player a foot in front of Knight.

Are we to assume that the trainers drum into the players that, when you can see the ball is going to the opponent that isn't the man you're marking, a gentle "After you old bean!" will indicate to the opponent that you have conceded the delivery of the ball to him?

And you are who exactly ?

I don't normally post on here but I do read from time to time - and you are so fecking arrogant (the arse door comment on the other thread typifies that)in response to a fan who has obviously followed the whites with passion for many a year.

I must be a sheep then - your comments re Jaaskelainen are a absolute joke - he's a liability and has been for the past 2 years, constantly glued to his line week in week out - years ago he'd have actually moved of his line and rushed towards the player and spread himself to block the shot - but these days he can't be arsed.

But of course you know better because you've played football at what level ?

Ask Brixton about Casino's footballing ahem skills

Reet I've been away for the weekend

Shall I just assume that everyone was shite?

a foot in front

theres no need for that.

Yes.

That saves you an hour of your life.

The issue with the first goal was pilkington was stood next to jussi, like nolan did for us, but Nobody was marking him. He took a few steps away from jussi, and got a tap in.

The second goal is poor marking from Boyata. Johnson makes the run early. Dedryck wasn't watching the ball, and too busy trying to man handle Johnson. He reacts too late and Johnson gets a free header. It was a good header though, i will give him that.

As a few previous posters have correctly established, we don't mark zonally, we mark men poorly. Wenger was asked a similar question in his press conference at the weekend. He basically said it doesn't matter which system you use, if you don't attack the ball, then you'll concede goals.

We mark poorly and don't attack the ball, so until we sort this out, we will be vulnerable at set pieces.

10 player in the box to mark 9 opposition players. 1 of theirs would always stop on the half way line.

2 men on the posts means they have a player free.

this man stood on jussi.

jussi should cope with this, considering the amount of protection keepers get.

if the man is just floating, then i dont know who picks him up as i dont have a gcse in football management

anyone care to shed some light?

I think the general thought is that if the ball comes to this man in the air, the keeper would have it. As it happens, it came to him on the ground, and that's why he had a tap in.

This is my point, you've got men on posts, men on the edge of the box (allegedly ready to break), men not being picked up, ergo it's not man to man. So what is it? Other than utter bollocks of course.

i think frandsen is our most qualified memeber to answer this?

and i have gonzo in my head too for some reason?

I can shed some light, they also have a man taking the corner.

HTH

oh yea!!!

doh, dick head!

Whats more fucking annoying is we have men on the posts who dont fucking stop goals going in when on the posts which makes it pointless. Our marking goes tits up when one of our fullbacks gets beat because a centre half has to then go to press the ball and then often gets caught in no mans land and the other centre helf is confused as to who he is picking up. Robinson is getting targetted because he is shit and getting beat very oftern. Boyatta looks fuck all like a full back, the cunt doesnt even know where he should be half the time.

Gumbo, not Gonzo.

Gonzo knows nowt worth knowing. :D

Same goes for Gumbo to be fair ;)

Oh and either way it was a fucking stupid question

Which deserved the equally stupid answer from Snoopy

Goes without saying, but he's in the line of work Homo was alluding to.
