It's a political & social mine field this, though the basic point that most will make is that benefits associated with unemployment are a safety net for those unfortunate to fall out of work through redundancy or Company going bust etc. It is definately not there to be used as a feckless, bone idle lifestyle for the lazy & unsociable underclass that we seem to have nurtured over the last couple of decades.

 

It's basic common sense to sort out a very expensive issue that is spiralling out of control. IMHO

The majority of single people are on ?67.50 a week if they are 25 or over. The press always go on about people on ?200,000 a week benefits, the BBC website has even got incorrect amounts down as examples.

 

You lot on here should be more worried about the plans to limit contributary benefits to just 12 months.,,,but you wont know much about that....another way the government will fook you.

 

?67.50 Job seekers + Housing benefit + Council Tax credits

 

I signed on for 3 weeks a few years back and got ?170 + council tax payed which was about ?30 / week. Thats ?200 a week.

 

The job centre told me that they would help me calculate if I would be better off taking a job or not.

 

An example.... 35 hours @ ?6 NMW = ?210 - after tax = ?190. With that you have to pay your rent and council tax, that means you are better off on the social. BARMY!

 

Another thing... Housing benefit used to be paid direct to Landlords but is now paid to the benefit claimer. I worked in Commercial debt recovery and we where inundated with landlords who rented to dss, many tennants would not pay the rent and do a flit after 3-6 months. that means they have ?170 for booze and fags. BARMY!

she works full time so not one of these 'won't work claimers' but her child went back to be cared for by grandma 4 years ago

 

she still receives child benefit

 

feel sorry for her, really, cos not many mums want to fire their kid half way around the world, but she said she 'couldn't afford' to have her live in the uk

 

still doesn't entitle her to the benefit

Now this is where this EU malarky must get people down then.

Europe is not a flat playing field if we have an established system of assistance but those coming in dont have in their homeland.

Mrs Swanny and I were discussing having another kid, we've decided to wait about 6 months when we should be a bit more financially stable.

 

The type of people who use job seekers etc as a lifestyle wouldn't even stop to think about it.

 

Go into a pub like the Canary in LL on a Tuesday Luchtime and you'll see your tax's at work, these aren't people who are struggling to find a job, most have no intention of working.

Full of job dodgers up here, we stayed opposite a lass who got pregnant at 15, and just as the kid was about to go to school (apparently she can wait until the child goes to primary school before getting a job) she got pregnant, she even said to the missus that "That's me for another 5 years"......

The Lass next door to me has 3 kids from 3 different fathers, each 4 years apart, not surprised.

It's like the Daily Mail postbag on here.

Like Birch-Chorley touched upon, at ?67.50 a week and with reasonable rent costs paid for, and no council tax - for some unskilled bloke who's single and with no dependents it's hardly worth going to work (monetarily rather than self-worth wise) - after tax, 'lunch money'* and travel expenses have been paid they'd be lucky to be any better financially.

 

Aren't the government supposed to be drawing up some kind of 'halfway house' scheme? To help employers and low wage workers (or unemployed, who have only low wage jobs as a realistic option)?

 

 

 

 

* If all your co-workers are eating/drinking 'out' at dinnertime, you're likely to do the same - not stick to your fish paste butties.

Anyone claiming jobseekers should be forced clean graffiti off walls, clean dog shit off the roads for 2 days a week (spend 3 "looking for work" otherwise get their jobseekers taken off them.

 

Totally disagree with people on beneifits living in expensive houses in london having their rent paid too, anyone not working on beniefits should be shifted to cheap housing after giving them a cpl of months to find work again, shitholes if needs be, all rounded up.

so i think the reports are slightly misleading and causing a stir.

 

i have no opinion on the DLA part

 

saying that, i do believe there should be a cap, and i do believe folk should have to work for their dole money.

 

the pay should be less than minimum wage and their need to be a limit on how long they can do it (reduing 'wage' perhaps)

 

the houses should be reasonable but not fukcin mansions. and they should be inpected to ensure they are looking after the property and not degrading the area.

 

and if they have anymore whilst claiming benefits, there needs to be consequences

 

child benefit and working tax credits should be based on family net income, not individual gross income.

It emerged last month that Nasra Warsame was living with seven of her children and her mother in a ?1.8 million property off Edgware Road. The rent was paid by Westminster council. Ms Warsame and her husband Bashir Aden fled Somalia in 1991 and get rent plus ?700 per week paid for by the tax payer.

Sorry, missed this last night and didn't see it until Casino quoted it. Yes; mum took child (or children) home with her leaving dad to be wage earner here and send wages (and benefits) home.

 

In fact, it seems to be a very similar situation to the one Casino describes so maybe your point about me sticking to putting out fires wasn't really required.

It all depended if child went back aswell. If it didnt, then there was no fraud committed.

 

Anyone who knows of any fraud should report it. Nice and easy and you dont have to give your name.

And dont believe everything thats in the press or writted on internet. Most of it will be incorrect, including the bbc article about it that was published yesterday
