hardly gone up with inflation, so I doubt girls are having a silly amount of children for ?13 a week

I'm fully in favour of a welfare state, but things like child benefit should be means tested.

I know people who never withdraw their CB from the bank, because they don't "need" it.

So, as I said, for each child they get another ?13.40, which isn't a lot a week, but in the example of 13 kids: ?9417.20 per year.

So to say nothing is taken out isn't quite true is it?

It'd go towards it. The point was the poster said they completely supported their children and didn't take any benefits. Nine & a half grand of their income would be from benefits.

If child benefit had risen in line with inflation, that ?7.50 a week back in 1978 would now be ?31 a week!

I imagine a family of 13 kids do a lot of hand-me-down stuff, certainly in the early years when the kids aren't quite so 'identity consious'

Anyone claiming jobseekers should be forced clean graffiti off walls, clean dog shit off the roads for 2 days a week (spend 3 "looking for work" otherwise get their jobseekers taken off them.

 

Totally disagree with people on beneifits living in expensive houses in london having their rent paid too, anyone not working on beniefits should be shifted to cheap housing after giving them a cpl of months to find work again, shitholes if needs be, all rounded up.

Of course, Mona would realise that in 1978 Child Benefit had only been partly phased in. It replaced Family Allowance gradually over 3 years between 1977 and 79.

I work with about 15 people who share the view that they are better off volunteering than sat at home for their job seekers...

 

If I were out of work, id be looking to do something to fill my time whilst looking for a job, and I'm not fussed to working for my pay..

 

BTW.. I had to find work on the 11th of December.. I had a new job on the 14th.. There is work out there,

 

 

as for people living down in London, heaving in more than double the national average in benefits, they should rightly be moved into cheaper areas otherwise there is no motiovation to work, and pride clearly isn't a factor.

Because its ignorant of other people's circumstances, environment, poverty and the rising cost of property and selfish private landlords.

 

I agree after claiming jobseekers for a short while voluntary work should become compulsory. But making people scrub off grafitti and dog shite simply because they havn't got a job. What kind of country do you want to live in?

 

Moving people out of a community they have known all their life because they can't afford rent is also a bit harsh.

its harsh i was made redundant from a very nice job a few years back and work now for half as much

 

its harsh i've been made jobless 3 times in 5 years and each time haven't been able to claim a penny

just take it off me

 

and while we're at it, stick my tax code back to where it was before we brought in 'child tax allowance' (i think its called that) to help the likes of me raising two kids

 

oddly enough, that cost be aboyt 20 a week and i got about 3 back

theres two sectors that allows seem to gain and one - the middling folk like me - who always seem to lose out

I only remember I had a 3 month old kid, my partner earned ?11 p/w as an apprentice, and drove a taxi for bank street at night . I had a job at weekend at tetrosyl and the family looked after the little 'un at weekends, so we could both work to supplement our income

Didn't drink or smoke , and I distinctly remember having just a tin of peas in the cupboard and no money.

All our furniture was given to us by friends, we had no washing machine, and the electric cooker had one ring that worked and the oven

It was so cold at night we had to sleep downstairs

 

I am not complaining, it made me the hard nosed, fighting bitch I am today

 

I wouldn't want to put any hard working family through that!

Some poor womans just been made redundant. For that, we're gonna make her clean graffiti off walls and pick up dog shit like a common criminal doing community service. Dont be bloody daft.

 

There may be work out there for some people, but not everyone, hence why there's over 2 and half million unemployed folk in the UK.
