Which Teams Will Be Our Biggest Rivals For Promotion ?

For me it all boils down to who Coyle brings in, we have the nucleus of a brilliant Championship side, currently though I fear teams like Leeds, Blackpool, Boro, Leicester, and Birmingham will be hard to beat, also Wolves and Blackburn should be in the mix.

There a few on here, and other forums who think it is a foregone conclusion that we will piss the Championship, I am not convinced, but that all boils down to who the club can convince, that we are a better prospect, there are teams down there who were also convinced that they would piss the league immediately following relegation, to me it is a shit or bust season, promotion will be the rebirth of our club, fail and it will be many a year before we see the promised land again.

Shall I list all 20?

Leicester, Birmingham, Boro, Cardiff. Perhaps Leeds.

With Blackpool it all depends on whether Holloway stays. And their Chairman does not have a great track record of continued investment.

Not sure why people are backing leeds. They have sold 2 of their best players to norwich over past 12 months and not replaced them. They weren't good enough last year, they won't be this year. All three relegated teams will be up there along with birmingham, blackpool and possibly leicester.

Beat me to it...

We will piss it

Brighton, they started out well and then faded,I think this year could see them improve.

Bit presumptuous to think that we are guaranteed to be in the mix, we have only a few players who know what this league is all about, Coyle needs to bring 2-3 players in who know how to get out of the league as its going to be a fight for every point and some of our lads are going to have to learn very fast.

1: Leicester

2: Bolton

--------------------

3: Wolves

4: Birmingham

5: Blacburn

6: Brighton

Done....

Leicester, Wolves and Birmingham I would have thought.

the biggest obstacle will be our own fans expectations.

This will be a tough season.

Your right last time we were down there we had a number of old wily pros who had been there done it and seen it. Funnily enough with this set of players we could either cream it comfortably or bomb out don't think there is going to be any in betweens.

Just hope Holden gets back to the same sort of form, and Vela lives up to his promise.Given the service Ngog and Sorrdel could demolish alot of defenses in't championship

Sh*t ! That's us in trouble then, based on last season's non-performances.

As said elsewhere, 3-4 wily experienced gutsy players are needed for this level.

Interesting thread this for me boro will be a good bet but what worries me is our experienced heads in our squad like petrov eagles knight ricketts are all soft as shit we need some steel bringing in but I suspect coyle as always won't spend on experienced payers - our young squad will either hit the ground running and do very well or we'll be in a relegation fight again

We wont be in a relegation battle. We'll be fine. Play offs at the least. We have a few people that have played at this level, (mears, ricketts, eagles, pratley, sordell) the rest haven't because they are supposed to be better than this level. I don't buy this we need experience at this level stuff. We need to keep the squad as it is now and we'll have more than enough.

Are we relying on Mears for grit and determination? If so, we are sunk.

He's great at running forwards without the ball but a terrible defender.

I've not seen enough of him to decide yet tbh. He's been unfortunate so he gets a clean slate from me.

To all those who think we will "piss it" take a long hard trip down memory lane and look at how we performed this season especially at home and then tell me why?

Because next season is a different season the past will be the past, lessons learned, players back, positive outlook, not saying we will piss the league or anything like it but after last season I'm lookin forward and upwards

I agree with most of what you say but:

When did owen ever learn a lesson?

the players back might not be be here.

The underestimation of the level in th championship together with the over estimation of owens squad makes me think mid table at best.

hope i am proved very wrong though.

Winning games?

I agree we aint got none of them of late

You can play football in this division and get promoted. Reading. Southampton etc it's not all about grit and determination
