In the same way, I tell you, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner repenting than over ninety-nine upright people who have no need of repentance

Thank God nobody still believes power comes from the barrel of a gun... oh wait

As you seem to be influenced by works of fiction, this quote from 'The Third Man' has always interested me.

In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, bloodshed?but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love, 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.

indeed. I'll try to be cheerier when Olympic fever hits WWays. :hi:

Some people just think it's cool to be 'anti' (or indifferent). Republicans are more sinister and seek to put the power of the final arbiter into the hands of a poltically installed stooge.

The biggest laugh I get from these 'Royal' threads is the 'German aristocracy' jibes which always surface. Surprising how many Italian/French/Scandinavian/Pict/Saxon/Angle/Wode/Celt cross breeds spout this.

Well I've spent jubilee weekend at Royal Bolton hospital sleeping at the foot of the wifes bed looking after the wife and nipper who's in the special care baby unit.

So my pride in Britain isn't in some old woman in London its in the nhs and the fantastic staff working there.

Oh and especially whoever ordered the giant bean bag ive been sleeping on.

What's up? Sounds a bit grim Frankie. Hope all is well.

Shakes head in disbelief.

Regarding your point that the good bit is that we all get time off work; I didn't. I worked Saturday and Sunday daytime and worked last night and again tonight. That you don't actually work makes your point somewhat moot.

Oh dear, another response to one of my posts with the old you don't work card, which is false.

Okay so you didn't get time off work, what exactly do I need to do, to have one ounce of care towards the Queen, sure she may be symbolic and idolised by other's, but she's a stranger to me, difference is she is on t.v now and again, but so is Eddie Murphy for example.

Right, here's where I got my supposition that you are jobless:

When you first came on this site, you were proud of the fact that you had a job as a painter and decorator. You very shortly bemoaned the fact that it was hard work and made your arms hurt a bit so you gave it up, prefering instead to sponge off your mum/the state. (Cross out whichever doesn't apply)

Since then you have been on here most days and at all times therefore said supposition could well be correct.

Go on then, tell the class what you do for a job Diddles.

Do you want fries with that request Micky?

Everything is on the up at the mo, thanks.

The missus had sky high blood pressure and the little un was 5 weeks early.

I spent 6 months on the dole when i was 19. Does that mean I don't have a right to an oppinion? Belittling someones occupation doesn't win an argument

Orwell isn't exactly a work of fiction tho is it? One of the most accurate depictions of working class conditions of his time.

errrmm Rodger Federer :) but on a more serious note Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Im not sure i understand your point to be honest, war is good because dark times produce nice paintings and literature? That makes terror, murder, famine all okay?

Youngsters have no respect for British values anymore

The war dead must be turning in their graves

The war dead must be turning in their graves when muppets like you say we should go out and conquer the waves and give another million some premature coffins to rot in.

Still one mans view of life in a short moment in time. Rodger Federer wasn't even born when Graham Greene wrote the Third Man!

Anyway, go and read Pax Britannica to see why Britains military might was so important in the worlds history.

Easy tiger, I don't think Micky is belittling Diddles's occupation. I think he's merely trying to get him to tell the class what he now does for a living.

.. and as for your 6 months on the dole, if the 6 months was your choice as you simply couldn't be arsed working, then at the time I'm sure a lot of folk wouldn't be interested in your opinion in the slightest.

Is it just me who's noticed but those at polar opposites of the political scale appear to be the angriest? Are political lines actually circles?

Thing is, most people on here know of one another, what they do etc. so can have a qualified discussion.

No idea who you are or what you do, however we already have our quota of socialist revolutionaries.

Not sure I fall into any of those categories but I do get annoyed at people who blame GB for Slavery when we were largely responsible for abolishing it.

No, I don't see you as a Wolfie or Mussolini. :)

It's a horseshoe, where extreme left almost meets extreme right.

No, I don't see you as a Wolfie or Mussolini. :)

It's me intit?

It is indeed.

They just don't see it though.

You are quite correct. I wasn't for a minute saying diddles wasn't employed therefore he has no opinion. But, hey, if that's what enhances Youri Djorkaeff's argument, making mischief from other folks' comments then let him go for it.

Here's my opinion: Youri, you're trying to find trouble where there is none. Diddles certainly doesn't need you to stand his corner. In fact, I value his opinion far more than I do Yours.

... and BOOM! Critical headshot from Micky :D

No, I don't see you as a Wolfie or Mussolini. smile.png

On the Horseshoe scale of political affiliation, I see myself as one nail hole, right of centre.biggrin.png
