To be fair like motor racing, tennis is a minority sport for posh kids in this country.

I come from Deane, hardly posh...

And James Ward's dad is a taxi driver, hardly posh...

The Murrays' again weren't loaded, the dad is a newsagent - hardly posh...

That's not my experience. I'm ex Bolton School and used to play a bit a tennis at school and on Moss Bank courts during the summer holidays. If id been very good at it  there's no way my parents could have paid 40k to send me to Spain, and my folks both had careers considered "better" than newsagents. The serious tennis players at school ie those with the fancy gear and members of clubs and there were only a handful were rich kids

In true wanderersways style I'll step in and be the one to lambast your parents for spending too much on ale and fags. If they truly wanted it, you'd have been a winner.

Just look at Murray's mum, she ain't seen a good time for decades.

For a newsagent to have a spare 40k to send his child to tennis school he must have had the full range of porno mags on the top shelf and some under the counter stuff too imo.

He probably lived in close vicinity to Gonzo, Whitt and George (God rest his rusty staples)

Daley Thompson once did an advert which involved him playing tennis.

He had only held a racket once in his life.

Des Lynam, aware that Thompson would want to look competent, arranged a coaching session with a leading coach.

He rang Lynam to say that after 2 hours, starting from scratch, Thompson was up to county standard.

no

OK but we do dominate the snooker rankings

And Jimmy Anderson is a top 3 bowler

When you think about it we have loads

Why is Stiffller stood with Sue Barker?

Great final so far after 2 sets.

Roger needed to serve as well as he did in the semi but couldn't get near that level Routine win for the Iron man of tennis

When he went to Spain, he was 15 and spent 2 1/2 years there. His talent had already been spotted (the LTA wanted him to be part of their programme). If my child had shown the ability & desire that he did at that age, and I thought it for the best, I'd have sold my granny to invest in him.

"Judy sold jewellery and lingerie as well as working as a coach in order to help raise the £30,000 a year to send Andy to tennis academy in Spain. It was a decision that paid off: Judy recalls crying as Andy made it into the world’s top 100 in 2005 – and his sending her a text simply saying: “I did it Mum”"

Murray showing again today why he's one of our top sportsmen! Superb grit and determination. Showed how much he cares with as well with the emotion at the end.

If he beats the Aussies in the semis he will go up in my estimation. By one floor.

I really do not get the anti-Murray thing.

I do not give a flying fuck what his background is, if he tells enough jokes, how his mum acts, he does not hug everyone in a lift or the fact he was born north of the border.

He is a world class sportsman who as well as the usual grand slams has won Olympic gold and is virtually single handed got us to a position where we could be classed as favourites for the Davies Cup.

His reaction. Yesterday his reaction was pure emotion for winning an event that does not earn a fraction of what he would get for winning a tournament.

When he has done comic relief or even in the audience at Mock the Week he has shown he can laugh at himself. Add on top of that he went to school one day and we all know what happened, he should be a national hero, instead people moan about a jokey comment a few years ago, I think it is pretty pathetic to be honest.

He is a national hero in his nation.

They have little else.

Lots of people don't like tennis? And then for some reason many avid British tennis fans would rather support Federer or Nadal. Our tennis public is not that patriotic. Or maybe they are so long as the player is from the South, polite and gentile and does little more than a gentle fist pump to celebrate?

The support he got at the olympics when it was people just cheering on GB in general was superb. Most of those people probably don't even watch tennis the rest of the time.

I really do not get the anti-Murray thing.

I am starting to have doubts on that and the claim that people are raising hens on their rear patios looks a bit dubious too.

And we most definitely don't only hate that lot from Stretford
