I like Djokovic a lot, but he just never seems to look knackered, even after 4 or 5 sets. Either he's just an incredible athlete......or something else is happening.

I'm sure you would be sticking to the rules if you were able to...

says a lot about where british womens tennis was, when you see she must have been 2 stone heavier when she was playing professional sport

I reckon he's on whizz.

He's just an incredible athlete. And he was tired in the last set when Murray beat him in the US open.

You know the game pretty well EG, do you reckon there's more to it than that?

I've no proof at all, but unless you have coeliac disease, then going on a gluten free diet isn't going to cause a massive improvement in performance - though the side effects of diet change can improve performance, but I the amount it did in his case was remarkable.

You need the basic skills, and there is no doubt that the skills are there, and are better in players as you go up the rankings. What the players at the top of the rankings have above the others is consistency and endurance. Those can be got by shortcuts (better endurance leads to more consistency).

I'd say there is a certain complacency in the tennis world about PEDs, there needs to be more out of competition testing, and the athletes need to not have that window where they can't be tested every day.

The Operacion Puerto thing led to Fuentes saying he'd also worked with tennis players & footballers. My personal opinion is that this puts a doubt on any Spanish tennis player (one or two in particular) whilst the owners of the blood bags aren't allowed to be named.

Going onto the GF diet didn't cause a massive improvement in performance - it produced a massive increase in consistency. Previously he would produce a brilliant performance one day but be below par 2 days later for the next round.

Murray tried the diet, but it had an adverse result for him. As he was not suffering from a coeliac condition it did nothing positive for him, but the restrictions did have a negative affect.

Or the whole GF thing was a smokescreen & AM wasn't following the exact same routine as ND.

When he and Murray rose the ranks together, they were both unfit. Murray cramping all the time, Novak constantly cheating with injury time outs to get a breather in 3 set matches.

Now look at them.Just shows the power of hard work.

Ahem.

Yes any sportsman who improves their fitness and stamina must be cheating....FFS.

Raw nerve much? That's not what I said or implied. I am nevertheless surprised when people move from having something as their biggest weakness to being the best in the world in a small number of months (like Sir Bradley & climbing).

Just find it irritating that players who have worked hard to improve their fitness are automatically assumed to be cheating by some. Improving fitness isn't impossible with lots of hard work.

There's a heavy genetic element to fitness; generally speaking young tennis players are already fit and moderately well trained, so given the physiology involved it's surprising that just hard work can significantly change their fitness level from that point. Improvements sure, but leaping from an area of weakness to being the best in that category, is certainly notable.

There is a heavy genetic component to a lot of skills. But practically anyone can train enough to run a marathon if the effort is put in.

Murray was cramping after a couple of hours on a court so clearly there was plenty of room for improvement. Given he built a lot of muscle via gym work I'd not say it is that surprising.

You assume that they were already doing the right things fitness wise and that may not be the case. Allardyce once said that many footballers were on completely the wrong sort of fitness regimes and it is why the sports science he introduced helped so many prolong their careers.
