New Stadia Thread

Bored, thought I'd start one off. Anyway, first up is Atlanta's new stadium for the American Football and new MLS soccer team.

Looks pretty smart, should do though for the cost. Going to be around the $1.2 billion dollar mark. Will hold around 65,000 expanding to 75,000 when required.

went to bilbao in feb

they've built a new ground though at moment only 3 sides complete

reason for this is they built it "literally" next door to the old one, so had to knock old one down before they could crack on with the 4th side

nowt special about the new one, just looks like something out of Pro Evo on the PS2

They do like a terrifyingly steep stand in Spain. Looks like you could fall out of the upper tier if you leant forward.

Isn't Nou Camp being done up over next few years?

I think they had to abandon it because it was too expensive. Norman Foster was involved with the original designs.

oh aye, marseille had been renovated before we got there

whata shitehole that must have been

I think it was originally renovated for the '98 World Cup, so not that long ago either.

How are these ones in Qatar coming on??

Not sure, looking forward to this one being completed though. Gash Arena, holds 40,000.

ace name for a ground

Will any of these new stadiums have rows A,B and C in place or will they be added when the demand is there?

Theyve had problems with their Ultras at San Jose, only just been allowed to travel to away games again. I didnt think there were away followings in MLS apart from the close derbies.

Much prefer these smaller purpose built grounds for MLS teams rather than using the giant NFL ones. The Atlanta one looks impressive but it wont do when theres 13,000 inside it watching real football

There's a maximum of 15 nfl games a year in a stadium.

that's if the team gets Home advantage all the way through the play offs and they happen to be hosting the super bowl that year.

They need something to use it for some of the other 37 or so weekends. Especially with the city council contributing a good wedge of the money to build the thing.

So an mls team is a perfect link up. The Seattle Sounders get 45k average in the Seahawks stadium. I've a mate who lives over there And loves it at century link.

The new San Jose Earthquakes stadium, due to be completed in 2015.

Folk of WWays may like this one, it's going to hold the largest outdoor bar in North America. Will hold 18,000 on completion.

Technically this is my closest MLS team.

Still a 8 hour round trip, mind.

I like what Seattle Sounders are doing and it looks like a great atmosphere every home game, but as a club and set of fans they go way back and have a fair bit of tradition (not 45k home gates granted!) so I d be surprised if Atlanta can get near that on a regular basis.

MLS interests me, wish C5 still had its late night coverage

that dallas cowboys stadium has 80k seats. no way will they squeeze 150k in there.

Atlanta urban interesting prospect. It's a massive sports city.

was surprised there wasn't much of a 'soccer' following in the area.

Plus there didn't seem to be much wrong with the Georgia Dome, certainly not enough to warrant a $1.2bn New stadium.

Aren't the Mexico national football team using Atlanta?

Does that Atlanta ground tell your fortune if you pick a number?

They can and they have. The record crowd of over 150,000 attended their opening game against the New York Giants. The largest crowd ever for an American Football game.

The seats are on rails (like Wolves new stand) rather than bolted to the terrace (like the Reebok), so they can add more seats when required. There's also standing capacity on multiple decks at either end.

don't beat around the bush Garrp, say what you mean

Garrps right, record attendance 105,121.

10k off the record at the Big House in Michigan.

Take it up with this guy:

I know two things about that Dallas stadium. One, the jumbo tv screen is too low and keeps getting hit by the punter. Two, it has never had 150k people in there for a game of gridiron.

Take it up with this guy:

Reet, I Fookin' will, what's his address?
