jules_darby Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Was thinking about it mate, but Tranmere put me off! Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Is anyone going to Port Vale?Four of us in t'car. Shamefully a new ground for me (yet tonight is my third visit to AFC Fylde) Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Yoof lost 1-0, pretty uninspiring stuff really. Nice pies though. No Wilkinson, Threlkeld or Vela so they'll presumably be playing tomorrow. Quote
bolton va va Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) Tonight's team, with a guess at formation.... ..Lonergan Ream...Mills...Dervite...Moxey Feeney...M Davies...Medo...Chungy C Davies...Wilkinson Winning 1-0 (Mills) Edited July 30, 2014 by bolton va va Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Still taking rough guesses at formation here. Feeney and Moxey seem to be more wing backs than full backs and Chungy is playing centre mid with Davies and Medo. Quote
Marc505 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Bogdan omission is interesting, Dougie was expecting him back by tonight Quote
Sweep Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 1-0 up We should be tonking shit like this at least 5:0 Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Was thinking about it mate, but Tranmere put me off! Can't get up for these friendlies this year need an inspiring signing to get some interest from what I hear first half we were shite, I'm back to giving DF a maximum of 10 games. Quote
Sweep Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 3 games me How many points? - the full 9 or will you make do with 6? Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 2-0 Beckford. Decent strike to be fair. Fuck knows what formation we're playing now though after a raft of subs second half. Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 2-1. No challenge on the cross, unmarked man heads it in Quote
boltonian67 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 This was the 2nd to last game before the season starts, and I am still wondering what formation Freedman is going to use, he stated weeks ago we would be playing 2 holding players and 1 striker, at Tranmere 4-1-3-2, and then Port Vale we play a 3-5-1-1 formation, when will he decide his best formation? My guess 10 games to go to starve off relegation. But then again we have that many midfielders we could well see a 1-8-1 formation. Quote
Guest bwfcdan Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Fair play to the 200 that went last night. Quote

We need to just judge him off results as that is what matters most. We will probably get fans moaning there is no plan B if Freedman/any manager doesn't try other things so they cant win a lot of the time. For me the excuses have run out and Douglas should have us top 10 quite comfortably and if he is doing a good job playoffs contention. Do I want more than that? Yes but I can probably name 7 or 8 clubs that are in a better state than us overall in this league so need to be realistic. The bookies have us at around 12-15th favourites to win the league just to add some perspective. Edited July 31, 2014 by tylswhite Quote
captainmed Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) Went yesterday. It was poor, very poor IMO. They had the clearest chances overall. We looked OK breaking forward and Craig Davies held it up well too but we were very suspect in defence. Only 10 days before the season starts and I know its only a friendly but I am concerned. I've not been to any first team games but from what I've heard and the feed from Brondby I'm also concerned I see no plan no formation and no striker who can play in the role we need which seems to be 1 up top. If we don't start reasonably quick DF going to be on thin ice. Currently I feel he can spot a player but has fuck all idea how to mould a team or to get them playing a high tempo pressing game which is what's needed in this league, we won't get promoted playing the Italian style he seems to prefer with players not good enough to play that system, and without a striker to give you a 1-0. Guest Blixa Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 On the plus side, Watford haven't a clue how we'll be lining up either. Quote

nantwichwhite Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I honestly thought that last nights performance wasn't too bad. The biggest fault was that we just do not have enough shots on goal whereas Port Vale were shooting in sight. Our possession in midfield was good and we knocked it around nicely. However, for all our possession at one nil the opposition are always in the game. When Hall, Danns and Beckford came on, in that space of three or four minutes we had three shots at goal (one from each player) and we scored with one of them. The squad is looking strong with genuine competition for places, except upfront which we are trying to rectify. So I am genuinely looking forward to the new season! Quote

Why is it necessary to play a high tempo pressing game in this league ? I can't remember a lot of teams playing this way. The counter attacking style works if you have pace and technique which I believe is what he is trying to get. Only Barca in recent years have played like this and just look what happened to Spain in the World Cup. You can leave yourself open. Quote
