Pre Season.

Yesterday was the only pre season game I have watched this season and I must admit I was disappointed with the overall Bolton performance. I agree entirely with points made on this thread about the improved defending, lack of creativity in midfield and no service to Beckford but something has to change or we will be hovering in the bottom half of the table during the coming season. Its too soon to be overly negative but come on Dougie!! get a grip lad.

With regards to the whole away day experience, then it's definitely far more fun.........most of the rest isn't great though

 

 

Although there have been some dreadful home games, I reckon the ratio of good/bad games is better in the Championship.

The biggest help is  It's because you can't watch it  every week on dodgy in the flying flute

After the first few years novelty all mid table premier league teams followings drop. It gets very tedious spending hundreds of pounds seeing your team getting spanked.

 

The championship is a league where we could go somewhere and win/lose 5-0. But at least the hope is there. That's what gets us up out the door

 

I'd follow them to the ends of the earth because they're mine but I wanna see them try and do it right!

Douglas is agreeing with most the negative comments after the game Saturday we need more fire power he knows it we know it but our lack of financial clout means we need to be patient he has also said he'd like to play two up but hasn't the right blend like much of last season so beckfords doing a "job" I suspect until we get the right personnel in wilkinson isn't ready it's him or davies up top as they aren't great together and beckford offers a better goal threat for me he's taking the lesser of two evils with one up top keep nice and solid at the back for now then get more attacking when the squads better equipped he proved last year with juke and mason that when it's the right thing to do he'll go with 2 up

Nobody takes issue with the fact that Dougie is working under difficult circumstances. But if he sets teams up like he did yesterday it won't help the situation.

Lots of good local non-league games to go to if the Macron games remain as bad as it's been the last season or three, Mounts. Saw a great 2nd half from Colls tonight - turning 0-1 into 5-1.

I'd assume not but Pratley isn't suitable for that role and Danns isn't a left winger. Neither should Medo and Spearing play together in that system. It was a friendly so absolutely no harm done, but that sort of team will just not cut it. And there are better options than Pratley in that role even when Mark Davies is injured.

I'm really hoping that I don't have to take this drastic action but I'm not standing for a negative zero creativity team selection this season, would find it difficult going anywhere else while Bolton are playing only done it once for a home game in 40 years.

I know what you mean. It's not something I'd do lightly.

But sometimes in life - desperate times, desperate measures. Why be tortured by something you can't change.

But it's a new season. So hopes are still alive.

Will never bin the mighty whites off got my season ticket sorted and intend to go to every home game when in the country, however sick and tired of the manager not playing a team with a shred of creativity and a style of football that is as welcome as a trip to the dentist, he's making excuses again today I see about having not a lot of options up front shouldn't he be concentrating on the positive mind set he's giving his players an excuse ahead of the start of the season. I'm thinking DF a dud manager myself not impressed with anything he does on the pitch although granted he can spot a player but that is what a scout is good at and that's his level right now and not the manager of a championship club.

This is what I cannot understand about the "English" attitude to modern football. The goals should come from everywhere not just one or two players. Any pro footballer worth his salt should be able to get a shot on target from up to 20 yards out. In some of the best Bolton sides I have had the pleasure to watch, goals came from lots of different players. Even during the magic early 90's SJM, Andy Walker, Coyle and Mixu were supported by goals from Macca, Stubbs, Green, Lee, Kelly, Brown and Patterson and later Thommo on a regular basis.

 

Its about moving forward as a team, getting into positions to receive a pass and getting shots on target.

Buying a season ticket for 40 years, every year, even when living in London; joining Lifeline when it started; buying club shares (now worthless) when they were offered; buying club merchandise ................. and then choosing to miss some home games when the football is piss poor and the people running the club for 15 years have got us over £160m in debt, IS NOT binning off your team.

Otherwise it's a crying shame that 30,000 Bolton fans don't bin off the team to the same extent.

That's exactly the problem.

 

We don't move forward as a team or have many shots on target.

 

Nothing to do with being a modern football fan.

 

The system doesn't allow it.

 

It may start working we don't know. But you can't blame folk for not liking what they are seeing.

if you have done all that and i am correct in what most old wanderers tell me.....times have been much worse. for me it is binning your team off.

I never claim to go anymore do i? i haven't said i haven't binned it off. 

 

having done the whole having a season ticket when living abroad i understand it can be hard. 

 

sacking it off for non league football is weird though. they are not good games. they are ridiculously poor in standard compared with Championship football.
