August bank holidays

Ffs I'm on call, fancied it to

Went to the library yesterday..

noticed a queue of immigrants waiting to use the computers, quite noticeable that at 10am on a Wednesday there is a lot of non English speaking people milling round the library. (fair dos if they're trying to learn the language)..

town centre was just blurggggg

got asked to donate to guide dogs 3 times in 200 yards, which is annoying.

Only went into town for some quiet study, but alongside daft parking prices if you're staying more than an hour, and the general feel.. makes you wonder "why bother"..

Benefits office has moved there whilst One Stop Shop is refurbed.

explains it,

its easy to miss how good Bolton library actually is..

got little rooms where you can study in total silence, its brilliant !

Big fire at Pound Bakery caused £17 worth of damaged goods.

Last time, well, the last couple of times actually, I went in Bolton Library it was full of the less salubrious of society keeping warm and it stank like Moor Lane bus station used to 'back in the day' when it doubled as a dosshouse for the ten or twenty tramps of the town...

Packs of basics soap retail at three tablets for thirty five pence, basics roll-on is thirty pee, there's no excuse for it, smelly f*ckers.

Why don't you get a SCONUL card, Swanny, then you can use the library at Eagle Mall? It's cleaner, no tramps and more women and girls to entrance.

i'm not at Bolton uni...

That's why I said get a SCONUL card - you can use the facilities, namely the library at up to three other Universities other than your 'home' one...

Being an alumni of Bolton means they'll do it without reservation probably (some Uni can be arsey about accepting SCONUL request).

ah cool, worth a try :) cheers

trek and half to edge hill

I was up in Lancaster the last time I studied, so used Bolton a lot with a SCONUL card - I'm surprised they didn't tell you about this at Edge Hill if they know you commute/aren't local.

To improve this town centre we have to make it less attractive to the piss pots, none English speaking noisy migrants and unemployed. Basically everyone who frequents it needs barring. I'm embarrassed by it, I'd never recommend shopping or anything here until drastic measures are taken to turn it back into what it was 30 years ago. Broke my bloody heart writing that, I loved this place :(

To improve this town centre we have to stop voting in Labour councils

EFA

Town planners are fucking idiots.

Bacup (nearest "town") has just been awarded some THI money to do the town centre up.

The bus from Burnley to Bacup goes into town, drops off its passengers, goes around the roundabout and sets off back to Burnley = simples.

The new layout will remove the roundabout in favour of a staggered T-junction and the bus will have go another couple of hundred yards and make three turns down narrow streets to rejoin the main road,, the last of which will be a right hand turn on a steep hill. That's going to be ace in winter.

Funny you should say this.

I was having a mooch around on job sites the other day and I noticed some town planner jobs going and the wages being offered were utter shit considering what the job is imo.

No wonder all towns are fucked nowadays with stupid fucking designs.

I was born and brought up in bolton (well to the age of 12) until we moved a few mile down the road into 0161 territory where I still live now with my missus who's from bolton, she is nagging the fuck out if me everyday to move back to Bolton but not a chance, as much as I love the place and am proud to say I am from bolton I am glad I know longer live there

Been in today, Bow Street multi-story is just fenced off. Is it just me that thinks it's slightly dodgy that after the council spend millions on building new car parks, and not long after this had a facelift, it's just been condemned?

You'd think that they'd at least take down the P sign at the junction of Bow Street and Crown St down. What a fucking farce!

It probably should have been condemned years ago, it's been held by acrow props for ages

It was fucked when the council/NCP took over ownership from APCOA.

the original plan was for one to already be built to replace it either on the old council car park by the D&P or on the euro car park right across the road but the linked in developments never happened thanks to the economy going tits up

What's stopping them taking the signage down, other than incompetence?

It'll be a way of making a point that there is no money. Like the plants growing in the roads
