Youri McAnespie Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 because it's on the edge of the world's shittest town centre, obviously. Let's face it, if you came to have a look around at eighteen and went for a pint and ventured into The Balmoral, you'd probably chuck the prospectus in the bin and head straight back to Trinity Street. Pablo Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 We have a mighty fine town, and enough outsiders take the piss out of us enough. I dont like people who live here joining in with them!! Similar to DMB fans who live here, openly having a pop all things 'Bolton'.....YOU LIVE HERE DICKHEAD !!! DMB mate of mine come out in town with us last year, Swannies n Bamboogie. He loved it, he though it had loads of character and a good atmoshere....rather than the soulless £10 a pop cocktail bars in Manchester!! He also did not realise Bolton was so "Green"....not the Fender type, but the fields / farms etc. Quote

Not in Crawley Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I like Town, its ours. Some of the people look like scum, but thats a National problem. Le Mans area has some of the nicest buildings around, yes some need sorting after years of neglect, but again thats a problem in the whole country. Howrich is mah, That 1 street of Cafe's and charity shops is no better than Newport street. Market Place was a mistake with what they did, but you can see what they tried. The Uni is decent, to have Uni at all is some acheivement. I like Bolton. And it came third from bottom in the recent national table - so a bit of an improvement I suppose and at least they can validate their own degrees now, rather than via Lancaster. Quote
only1swanny Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 If a uni only lets people in with high academic results, it will come high in the league table.. Bolton used to specialise in second chances, mature students and people with learning difficulties.. End of the day the Uni is something we should be proud of, how many Uni's sponsor a football team, and have that communal link, Quote
frank_spencer Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Folk come from all over the north to do their civil engineering qualifications at Bolton uni and they have since it was th'institute. Bolton town centre's image suffers as its in close proximity to the seemingly retail Mecca of bury whic has some nice shops in the new bit and a bigger market but an identical deserted town centre outside the Rock. Rochdale makes bolton seem like a teeming metropolis as even maccies have pulled out of the town centre. Quote

Sweep Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 majority of those were educating are Pigeon fiddlers. Is that true? - or just bollocks Quote
beer_swiller Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Seriously, more folk are visiting Bury as opposed to Bolton. I went to Bury recently on a beer train trip but did have a mooch around the so called famous Market. Impressive!! I actually thought it was far better than Bolton, I know..... give me some shite for saying so but a few more besides myself have mentioned it's a decent place. As for pubs Bury was better, I don't do shopping so I aint a clue about that. At least the grot spots in Bolton are being addressed. Quote
Youri McAnespie Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Is that true? - or just bollocks Of course it's bollocks, that's the stock in trade of bigots. There may be reciprocal arrangements regarding access to benefits between EU countries, but higher education there is none. If there's overseas students studying in Bolton they're paying their whack, and they don't get much bang for their Baht either - the classes timetable is pretty light on hours for most degrees there. Closest to pigeon worriers on my course was a lad with a polish grandad who came over during the war, oh and a muslamic lass of Indian origin. There were foreign sorts knocking about but no more than you find at other uni's Quote
Smiffs Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Going to Bolton as a kid was a big day out, I loved it. Even though I was born there, I grew up in Athy/Leigh but Bolton still felt like my home town, especially with the Wanderers. If anyone ever asks me where I am from when abroad I always say Bolton. It has some marvellous buildings and heritage. Walk round town centre, look up, and its an architectural dream. On its doorstep is the most beautiful countryside, its a superb location. But Look down at street level and its heaving with fucking scum. There lies the problem. A great deal of it is migrant. I know that will upset you bedwetters but its a fact. I distinctly remember walking from Bank Street car park to Slaters to pick a suit up one Saturday morning and not hearing one male English voice from A to B. Shit attracts shit from all walks of life. Sure there fuckloads of resident filth but they don't wind me up quite as much as organised gangs of Romany wankers going round pickpocketing and scamming or gangs of rayguns abusing white girls. There is loads of potential, acres of it, as shown when they do the Food Festival which is the best thing the town has seen for donkeys years. It's a developers dream. Remove the scum and folk might want to return and spend (or invest) their cash. Put as much heavy handed efforts in cleaning the streets of antisocial filth as they do slapping parking fines on shoppers would be a start. Till then shops will remain empty, too many of those that are open will sell shit, and too many people will continue to spend money elsewhere. Quote
Casino Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 one of the biggest single problems has been lack of competitive (cheap) parking thats if you could get your car in town via the fcuk off wide roads resticted to single lanes so, its not just there are more immigrants, its the lack of traditionally english types, who had money to spend Quote
beer_swiller Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 A great element of truth in both the last posts. Yes the town is full of scum bags and immigrants and the parking is extortionate. That is why they go to Trafford centre, everything they want is under on roof and it's free parking. As I stated before Bury seems more attractive, even Leigh is more pleasant to walk around. Quote
Bobcat Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Was in a establishment the other day and had a great view of people visiting the eat as much crap food as you want chinese buffet down from Rockerfellas... There was a steady stream of scruffy, unkept, fat, sock wearing, sandal sporting pigeon botherers entering for their lunch...followed by their equally fat smelly wifes all pushing a pram with a street urchin sat in it... Not sure...but they could of been selling pigeons to said establishment... Were fucked i tell ya.. Quote
gonzo Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 You need to save up a few quid up bobble hat and get yourself a swanky new pad on the Pike Rivera in Horwich. There no scutters, foreigners and the streets are paved with gold. Quote
