People I've spoken to up here aren't necessarily voting according to their football alliances.  I know of many Rangers fans who will be voting Yes, and Celtic (silent 't') fans voting No.

Who is the collective luck you refer to? I wouldn't have thought it would matter to far away colonies.

They have nothing to lose either way. Each Scot currently receives £1200 more than any other English, Welsh or Ni resident of the UK from UK subsidies.  Why do you think they get free further education, free NHS car parking, free social care, cheaper NHS dental charges etc?  A no vote will no doubt perpetuate this with the promise of "reforms" giving them further preferential treatment. A yes vote gives those with the typical "chip on shoulder" freedom from Westminster governance and all that that entails.  Candidly I don't give a flying fcuk which way they vote, I am more interested in a referendum on membership of the EU as that is a greater cancer to us Brits rather than the jocks being in or out. 

I'm personally not bothered either way, but I'm not sure I agree with Boltys claim that if the English were allowed to vote if we should keep them in the Union or not that  it would be a "landslide" to get rid. As Crawley states, it generally is only the trifle eating, beach towel waving pub bores who seem to want to get rid of them at all costs.

You forget my Scottish relatives; connections with the Black Watch and, of course, my Ibrox Park leanings. I like to trot out lines along the "Let the English vote to get a landslide 'yes' " as a counter to their somewhat overworked anti English bollocks. Just to wind then up a little. Learn to live with it.

 

Go on then. Educate the class on Hadrian's Wall and how well you can read Wikipedia. Most of us know the jury is out on it's raison d'etre but I await the teachings of the master with bated breath.

It's called an education; or you can just pick up a book; you don't need the internet. HW was built to mark the northern boarder of the Roman realm, they couldn't be arsed with the highlands. It was there to mark this and to help protect again the disparate tribe's of Picts that roamed over the lowlands, the 'Scots' as a tribe of people hadn't come over from Ireland by that point. You don't keep out a whole race of people with a three foot wall with turrets.

When is it and when do we find out the results??

 

The voting is on Thursday 18 September, closing at 10pm.

Counting will be in 32 separate centres, split into yes, no and spoilt. There will not be any local recounts on the closeness of the outcome, merely on the process.

The result will indicate the total turnout in each of the 32 areas, but only the overall yes/no figures.

There has been a massive surge in registration applications, especially in the greater Glasgow conurbation.

My surmise is that these are likely to boost the yes vote rather than the no.

Unless it is a landslide (presumably no), I think it unlikely that the result will come on the Friday (especially if the planned helicopter cannot transport boxes in the Western Isles). The weekend may be saved for any recount needs, with a result early on the Monday. Of course if there are any hanging chavs this could be messy.

So my history teacher at BCGS who taught me that it was ordered by the Emperor Hadrian to keep out marauding barbarians was right then?  Who'd o'thowt? Strangely, that BCGS mob weren't half bad at edumacation - especially when it was a Grammar school.
