September 10, 201411 yr Jim McColl - Monaco tax exile Brain Souter - Stagecoach boss - a renowned right winger George Matherson - former CEO of RBS; responsible for Fred Goodwin's leadership John Swinny - would be a Tory if he wasn't a nationalist All members of the SNP I'm not saying they are the Scottish Tories but they certainly aren't Socialist by any stretch of the imagination. They are also attracting the attention of small business leaders. What is it doing is broadening up the debate of a more decentralized UK; where the North certainly feels that London and the South east is too powerful. You are right, whatever happens things are going to change. Its just that the Scots - by dint of being a different country have the opportunity to say to London, you aren't listening to the whole of the UK, and you don't speak for us. This has been happening ever since New Labour began, slowly eroding traditional left wing heartlands as they chase middle England. The Liberals forming an alliance with the Conservatives. People feel they have no representation anymore in Westminster. Even if this is not true, it is what many feel and the three main parties have been too slow over the last 15 years to wake up to this fact. If Scotland go, believe me further voices will be heard for more regional assemblies, firstly in the North East who feel the same as many of the Scottish do - the Tyne had the same issues as the Clyde. In England it has given oxygen to UKIP, in Scotland the SNP. Right wing, left wing - these are old terms for these parties and the public is sick of them as well, they are not beholden to either, this means they can claim to be the voice of the people and this feels refreshing to many. Again, this is why not one party could claim a majority in the last GE. This is a new political landscape we are witnessing and whatever happens, nothing will ever be the same again.
September 10, 201411 yr NIC is correct in his last pronouncement. Whatever the outcome of next weeks vote there will be increasing demands for devolutionary powers in the future for all parts of the UK - or what's left of it. Hopefully this won't lead to yet another (4th) tier of government.

September 10, 201411 yr bbc have an interesting article on defence.. would appear its a subject Salmond doesn't want to approach
September 10, 201411 yr Salmond; commie cunt When ex oil economists are being called Communists, you know there is no point in even having a discussion.
September 10, 201411 yr will the Scottish defence force have any jets or warships? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-29135269 Not much, just seems people are focussing that the current politicians down south are such cunts ( both parties) that any change would be good. The growth of the BNP and then UKIP have shown how out of touch the politicians are, if this vote is lost on Cameron's watch it will be the lasting legacy of his time in charge. I want them to stay but not at any price, to be dangling bribes now just seems so shallow. If they vote to go it will fuck both economies for the next few years, the recovery is precarious already lose the confidence of the international money markets and it could fall apart. That is before you get into the actual costs and time of splitting things up. Edited September 10, 201411 yr by Ani
September 10, 201411 yr bbc have an interesting article on defence.. would appear its a subject Salmond doesn't want to approach The SNP propose the newly formed SDS which will be made out of the current Scottish regiments. They have openly said they would use a model similar to Norway but that's expensive. For armaments they propose to use equipment negotiated from the existing UK armed forces, presuming that the UK wouldn't want an unarmed country on it's boarder. They propose full membership of the UN without wanting nuclear power and they would not really go a fight as peacekeepers, as per Norway, but less armed as they're not paranoid about Russia presumably. Would current scottish soldiers want to join a home defence unit? Who knows. The plans are pretty paper thin, lots of holes and again rely on negations with the UK after the referendum. Wisely Salmon is avoiding questions such as this at this late stage of the campaign.
September 10, 201411 yr What about the Welshers? Will they not fancy fookin off too if all this goes to plan? Gonna be a bit lonely just us and some micks.

September 10, 201411 yr Admit it you are worried! Labour without Scotland? Lame duck! Have a look at the majorities of the last three labour governments. Labour would have been in power with or without Scotland. If you're going to make a point, do some research. Obviously it'd be a huge blow but to say no centre left party would ever get into power again as a case for the union to stay together is, well, it's a lame duck.

September 10, 201411 yr The Welsh don't have the economic strength to even propose going alone, but they could argue for greater devolved powers.
September 10, 201411 yr Wasn't really overly arsed but just watching sky news now and I've made my mind up. They can fuck off not because they're just porridgewogs but because I don't think most of the backward cunts I've just seen should be allowed to vote on important stuff in the country I live in.

Would destroy the status quo and the labour party. Yes the tories woul be in for one or two term but what would grow out of that is a real good centre party, Obviously you are happy for thing to remain the same! Shame as I really thought you wante something better for us all! You really have to look at the long game here!
