September 5, 201411 yr So my history teacher at BCGS who taught me that it was ordered by the Emperor Hadrian to keep out marauding barbarians was right then? Who'd o'thowt? Strangely, that BCGS mob weren't half bad at edumacation - especially when it was a Grammar school. I agree with your last sentence but don't tell the others eh? Our sparring bouts hold some of them transfixed. TheWanderer1958 for example - seems you may be one of his heroes. Can't explain why but I always think of Sleepless In Seattle when he posts. Odd really because he's closer to Clueless In Clitheroe. Yes, but not the Scottish as we would know them. I doubt we keep them transfixed as much as mildly diverted as two entrenched positions try and change one another's mind without ever succeeding. Its like the WW equivalent of two bald men fighting over a comb. Spider, your copy of 'The Handwringer' (much less exciting than the title suggests) is winging its way to you as we speak. Just as long as Kent can get his, 'What the Liberal man is wearing about town for Autumn 2014' article finished.
September 5, 201411 yr Yes, but not the Scottish as we would know them. Precisely. Just wish I'd spelled it out
September 5, 201411 yr If they vote yes will we still have to put up with Scottish Football on Sky Sports News?
September 5, 201411 yr Precisely. Just wish I'd spelled it out I know. Come on, you're better than that (just)
September 5, 201411 yr I remain convinced it will be a 'no' irrespective of polling trends. The Scots aren't stupid when it comes to net gain. A high proportion of Scots graduates Live and work in England (and won't have a vote). Rather like a lot of clever people come from Liverpool but move away. It's the staying put population which is the problem. Cameron (Scottish name, perchance?) is said to have made no plans for the possibility of a yes win. Not to have made any contingency plans is extremely stupid but maybe the lack of plans was a false statement. How will the Army be split? Where will the RAF train? How many financial companies will move from Edinburgh and elsewhere to south of the border? Will Royal Mail split, or at least will the English part cease to subsiside deliveries to the Western and Northern Isles and the Highlands? Will the BBC (I could go on ...)

Cameron comes from scottish line. It's not going to happen and no need to overplan if it did as there's 18 months to sort out the stuff and rebuild Hadrian's Wall
September 5, 201411 yr Cameron comes from scottish line. It's not going to happen and no need to overplan if it did as there's 18 months to sort out the stuff and rebuild Hadrian's Wall But NO contingency planning is madness - surely it can't be true? On day one the market will fall. Not the least irony is that if Salmond wins independence he loses power to Labour, which is the leadership Scots voters believe they are currently denied, whereas if he loses by a respectably small margin his power increases. By the way Hadrian's wall is not the border - even its nearest point is 10 miles south of the border, and Wallsend is east of Newcastle.over 50 miles south of the border.

September 5, 201411 yr there's loads of contingency planning going on, perhaps at a cost of £1bn Complete waste of our money So Hammond, then Defence Secretary now Foreign Secretary, was lying to a Commons Select Committee when he said no preparations for the consequences of a yes vote had been made? Either way, I'm shocked.
September 5, 201411 yr So Hammond, then Defence Secretary now Foreign Secretary, was lying to a Commons Select Committee when he said no preparations for the consequences of a yes vote had been made? Either way, I'm shocked. Lying? Probably I'm alluding to the wider contingency planning, not just governmental
September 5, 201411 yr excellent, I think I may just have gotten away with it You didn't get away with using 'gotten'. Buck up laddie.
September 6, 201411 yr Spider, your copy of 'The Handwringer' (much less exciting than the title suggests) is winging its way to you as we speak. Just as long as Kent can get his, 'What the Liberal man is wearing about town for Autumn 2014' article finished. It's a belting read this month. I've just finished the article on why imaginary bow and arrows should be banned from schools as they are offensive to Native Americans and I'm about to get into an opinion piece by Caroline Lucas about her favourite African basket weaving techniques. There's also a free sample of non culturally specific hemp unisex hand moisturiser designed to help with the forthcoming chaffing from excessive winter wringing.

You've never been the same since visiting the Adelphi with me and then on to that mosque...........................
September 7, 201411 yr What's going to happen to that wanky union flag if they Fuck off ( God willing)
September 7, 201411 yr Wanky flag? Men and women have fought and died under that flag, what's happened under the flag of St George in living memory, a few patio chairs and glasses launched across squares and a dozen or so shite displays by the team being followed. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQvnjp0oMDkKMc_ARKEHBhWYIbRtMjVVXcR4xdR_faL1TIlhIptvvQXR-w
September 7, 201411 yr I love the union flag Back in the day that's what we always had at the match Gumbo had a Stockport Whites one
