I saw a few 'Yes' car sickers and the Scottish socialists were campaigning on Princes Street when i was in Edinburgh in july.

but from what ive read voter apathy on the No side is the only way that independence will happen.

The Sweaties I work with are split right down the middle on this. You'd imagine it would be a no, but think it could be closer than people think. I think a unified Britain has to be considered stronger by both countries but if they went off and do the independence I would still sleep well at night!

I bet they were a well dressed bunch :)

Most I know are Yes voters, in fact the only No vote who I know is my cousin who lives in Perth, and she's from darn sarf originally.

The thing I'm most bothered about is the currency more than anything. Can't be arsed changing my money up all the time considering I go up there at least once a month.

I do fear it will all go tits up within a couple of years though when Salmond fails to walk the walk.

Can we vote do decide if we want to keep them as part of us?

Hopefully they'll vote NO

Lot of Labour voters in Scotland

tis a good point that.

It will effect us on some way. But it will effect them more, and for the worst. Anyway, it wont happen. I expect when push comes to shove it will be a 60/40 for staying British. This will explode the mith that the majority of porridge jockeys are fick.

Hopefully they'll vote NO

Which is why Labour don't want to break the Union - a separate Scotland would likely mean a Conservative government for the remaining Union for quite some time...

Part of me thinks it would be good to let the Scots go but it would probably end in a total disaster that we would end up picking up the bill for in the long run.  Salmond is a cunt and he has totally underestimated how much it is going to cost Scotland to set up their own support infrastructure - just think of the time and cost of moving everything internally for Passport/ID, NHS, Social Security, Pensions, Inland Revenue, etc!

Who wants em,I dont

It would really affect us.

If the independence voters win there will be negotiations between the Salmond party and the Treasury about how UK Government debt is divided. Let's say that 10% of this is attributed to Scotland. Osborne has already said that if necessary the remaining UK will take on the whole debt. This would of course increase the effective rate of interest being paid.

Salmond will offer to accept Scotland's share if they get equal use of the pound, with the Bank of England (founded by a Scot) as the lender of last resort. If he is not given full currency support they will go "Scot free" on existing debt, but would find it extremely hard to borrow from anywhere in future, being seen as having reneged on their debt. If they can borrow it will be costly.

So that's a Lose-Lose situation.

If independence fails all parties have said that more powers will be devolved to the Scottish Government. Currently the funding level is set by the Barnett Formula, devised on the back of a fag packet in about 1977 by the then Cheif Secretary of the Treasury. It is generous to Scotland. This was designed for the next year's spend and was never, ever, even remotely, intended as a long-term method of allocating funds. The next year the Labour Government deemed it unwise to rock the boat approaching a General Election. When Thatcher won the election she had far more things to do than adjust the spend on Scotland, and by the time she might have considered it the extra negatives which she had gained in Scotland would have been increased (if that were possible). So she left well alone. Blair/Brown were hardly likely to reduce Scotland's share, and equally Cameron has not wanted to rock the boat - the more so with this vote in the background (now foreground!). So the 5 minute fix has remained in place for nearly 40 years.

So if the answer is No, England loses financially (but not as much as if it's Yes) and Scotland goes on being treated yet more generously.

If the vote for independence is 50%+ we all lose.

If it is lost with 49% Scotland gains.

If it is lost with 25% Salmond loses face.

I want them too piss off, the sooner the better in fact I've already altered my passport for the great day when where free of the porridge wogs for good.

I wasn't allowed out of the country the other week becauseof the lefty cunts on passport control but I don't care.

They won't let us because it would be a landslide to fuck them off.

Been a millstone around our neck for centuries. There's absolutely no way this will be anything other than a 'No' vote. They like to look after their mickles and muckles and they are a net gainer from the Union.

This is a sad day for us all, brought on by the most deluded politician we have seen in the UK.

I hope he gets what he deserves

It would be good for all concerned. The labour party would die and something more credible would take its place. Therefore the current two party fiasco would come to an end.

However, its probably going to end up 60:40 in favour of no so nothing will change. The sheep will keep voting the same way at future general elections and we will continue to get the governments we deserve.

Malcolm is correct, Bolty isn't.

I love Malcolm

I think that after a no vote the rest of the uk should have a referendum to fuck them off anyway on our terms

boltys right malcs wrong

Faslane would be a nightmare to relocate, hide it away on Pennington Flash.

Malcolm is correct, Bolty isn't.

Then you aren't.

latest polls I read were 51% no, 11% undecided and 38% yes (yougov).

Human nature says people undecided this late on won't end up going against the status quo. Mind you, what a scruffy clapped out band of rockers has to do with it I don't know. Maybe because Jock-land is  scruffy and clapped out? In fact, they are the Status Quo of Europe - some good moments but many years ago.

Hopefully they'll vote NO

Let the fuckers go, free run for the Tories down here.
