Packed in the family ST (4) in 2008. Found we were only using it 10 or 11 times that season. Last year I didn't go to a single game. First time since 1972. The thing is I fully expected to go to around 10 home and 3 or 4 away games after giving up said ST's, and did in 2009. However games got fewer and fewer in subsequent seasons and even before my financial situation suddenly changed, the cost of one off games was becoming a real mental hurdle.

 

I agree that the pre and post match experience is a huge part of the day, but for me the move to the Reebok was the start of a decline that saw me being the last of a group of 30 plus who used to regularly trip up in the mid nineties.

 

Once you find other stuff to fill the void, the draw is no longer there.

 

One last thought. Be careful what you wish for, when the time comes that Bolton are pushing for promotion, many will be asking "why aren't the Bolton public coming out to support the side" when crowds struggle to get past 11k. I'll wager a few of those asking will be the same as those who have just posted their ire at JCL's. Remember, you were all a JCL at one time.

Do a large proportion of BWFC fans live within Walking distance of ASDA at Burnden for it to make such a difference it being at the Macron now. Thought most people near asda were at the mosque on Saturdays

Going watching Bolton is great - yes I moan quite often in the middle of winter when we are playing shite like Blackpool and struggle to put 2 passes together but ultimately I enjoy it otherwise I wouldn't keep going.

 

I started watching Bolton at the start of the decline in 1980/81 so I always thought being crap was the normal - it was only ever other teams who went on to win promotion or even not battle against the drop.

 

Burnden was special, used to love going in the Monteraze for a few jars before seeing us tearing the division a new backside under Rioch then Todd but ffs them days are long done - 17 years ago now since we moved into our present home. There are plenty in our fan base now who never 'walked down the manny road to see the Burnden aces'.

 

Being at our new gaff was the excuse many were looking for to not go anymore. Brighton moved to a new & out of town stadium but they still fill it. Obviously I can't speak for anyone but myself but I'm certain if we filled our stadium (or even somewhere close to it) we would all enjoy it much more than we currently do and maybe we could have invested a couple of quid in news players.

 

Sure, fans often require a catalyst to get back in to the habbit of going again - a Wembley trip or a good cup run but sometimes a club needs the fans to be a catalyst to get moving in the right direction again.

I think the fans were the catalyst for our return from the dark days in the 80s we had a small but unbelievably loyal and vociferous following the positive vibes sent out on match days played a big part in our return to the big time, oh how we need that positivity and vociferous support on match days now.

We've gained a big amount of support from areas north and west of the macron that we wouldn't have gained if we were still at Burnden.

 

There's loads from Leyland,adlington,Chorley all in their 20's that probably would have ended up watching Wigan/Preston/Blackburn if the macron wasnt where it was along with the success we had.
