Roger_Dubuis Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 Real Madrid have been wonderful ending Liverpool hopes three times in the last 6 seasons but I make even them second favourites against all that oil money. What Madrid have that MCFC don't have is the supreme confidence, self belief and arrogance that comes from being a great club. Not one that was relegated to the 3rd Division before the oil money Quote

Clayton, Beswick, Bradford, Miles Platting are utter, utter shitholes. I can understand the residents seeing an improvement but it’s a handful of glitter sprinkled. A solid turd that sparkles a little bit in the right light is better than a sloppy one I’ll doff my hat to the Qataris for the sporting facilities that have been built, which are exceptional, but derelict shops, boozers, businesses and houses still dominate the area. Reminds me of the 70s slum clearances without the slums actually being cleared “East Manchester Regeneration” my arse. Who's fault is that? City, for not doing enough? Local or national government, for not doing enough? The people who live there, that make the mess, for not doing enough. I read an article from the MEN from 2021. Very informative, with observations and interviews. Far from perfect, with some failures, but overall, the majority pleased with the benefits. Would put the link up, by my phone isn't allowing it. Back then, city were paying £4m per year in rent to the council alone. Numerous other payments and investments that have been made and are ongoing. Employment and education opportunities provided. Without the owner's invesmtment, how much would have happened and what would it look like? You live in a nice little area, and you all look after your bit. If everyone did likewise, the shit-holes would be far less shitty. Certainly not a panacea, but certainly a major boost, and certainly not something to criticise them for. Quote

That's what they want you to think - they do this so you don't criticise them. As I say, it lets our own government off and stinks to high heaven. But people will still parrot these lines all day long, and whilst they do, we'll still have our community clubs owned by brutal dictatorship states with human rights records noone can support. Quote

Milan derbys are all or nothing but in European games I agree that same nation games seem to lose their sparkle. The financial pressure on both clubs will be huge I suspect. I was lucky enough to meet Eusebio at a Benfica as my greatest football claim to fame. Impressed mate. They always used to refer to him as the 'Black Pearl' or the 'Black Panther'. Yeah, these The point I was making (obviously not very clearly) is that City’s owners haven’t made much of a difference to the area and I wouldn’t expect them to. As mentioned the sporting facilities are amazing (thanks to City’s investment) but the area has been neglected by local govt to the point that it’s more run down than when I moved here 20 years ago At least you read my post 😂 Quote

A Milan derby maybe to look forward to anyway. Have you been to Naples before? Errr, quite a few times mate! I was last there three years ago after leaving our company's factory in Reggio Emilia and heading south by train. Napoli train station itself is a life experience! Missus' family is mainly in Salerno and Napoli (and Tun Fowt!). I'll not send the others to sleep repeating tales of visits to Fuorigrotta etc. Suffice to say it's a fucking madhouse but a highly addictive one. There'll still be one massive, mental party once the Scudetto is clinched even though the Champions League dream is over for at least a year. Will be watching the home game v Salernitana on 30th April with great interest. Wondering if 'interested parties' might be having a word down in Salerno if the draw kings are safe from being relegated. Would not surprise me one bit. To the Campanese in general, this is seen as a 'win it for Campania' thing. All of the granata fans in the family are desperate for Napoli to become champions. I'll be selecting a 'H' for that match! I know it's being picky mate but you do know that AC means football club don't you? It's Inter v Milan. It depends on your definition of tasty. Every possibility of a tight tie. A 0-0 and a 1-0 to either side wouldn't surprise me. Hope I am wrong and it's a 3-3 and 2-2 draw ending up being decided on penalties but I just don't see it the way these two play. Maybe by 'tasty' you mean niggly and confrontational? A bit like you now I've pulled you up on 'AC' Quote
