I'd say they're pretty cut throat and would step over an old lady for a sale but my experience of estate agents is that they put in the leg work. I'm selling at the moment from what I can see you can't question the work ethic.

Last time I moved job a recruitment agent was involved. She was a fecking idiot.

 

She insisted on doing a mock interview before my real interview. Was ridiculous. She actually asked me if I was an animal what sort of animal would I be. I was pissing myself down the phone.

 

Then once I got the job my new boss asked me if I knew anybody else looking for work. Got a mate in, got a nice introduction fee. She got wind of it and rang me at work to bollock me.

 

So in the same way all teachers are work shy wasters, all recruitment agents are fecking idiots

May also have been in response to the proposed mansion tax by Labour. He's killed that one stone dead with this move.

 

I'm against these particular changes in stamp duty. The bands did need to be made progressive. It was ridiculous and distorting that at £249,999 you paid £2,499 but at £250,001 you paid £7,500, etc. But he's cut the duty massively on all properties below £1m or whatever.

 

Everybody praising the changes should keep schtum when the next round of cuts are made - because these will have to be paid for one way or the other.

 

Also what he has done is make the margins on a buy to let a tad more attractive, and lowered the capital barrier to getting into buy to let in the first place.

 

I think house prices and buy to let are really harming the country, this hoarding of property will kill social mobility dead. Foreign ownership is equally to blame. How on earth any youngster in the South East without rich parents plans to buy a property when they grow up is beyond me.

 

£100k salary needed to buy in London now without equity. For all the money floating about London £100k is still not earned by many. Certainly not by many young people who don't own a home.

 

 

I'll give the Tories their due though. Progressive stamp duty and pension reform have been two absolute no brainers for ages. They don't consult and fuck about, they just use their executive powers and make the common sense change.

A lot are, but they come and go, when times are good, everyone and his dog is on the bandwagon but when there’s a down turn a lot of these agents disappear, I would say 90% off the ones that are left are good at what they do.

I’ve been contract now for nearly 30 years so I know the good , bad and the ones I would not trust with someone else’s money let alone mine

It hasn't ruined France or Germany. It's only the UK which has this obsession with the property ladder. It is a red herring to connect social mobility with home ownership. The only way to ensure social mobility in the first place is selective education. Everything else is detail.

Nobody is compelled to live there but a lot of people are born there. If they grow up, and get a job, the council won't house them. They'll never earn enough to buy a place, so they'll have to move. That's a bit fucked.

 

The fabled lack of home ownership in France is not quite true either, Germany moreso but still plenty of people who own there. Strip out the East German commie blocks and you'll have a different story. And it misses the point that the government sold lots of our public housing stock and doesn't build any.

So who should live in London then? Council tenants, foreign investors and wealthy private buyers? What about the ones who do the jobs which keep the capital ticking over? Where should they live? Perhaps they could commute from Birmingham to empty bins and clean offices in London.

Emotive subject, but you have to get your head around the fact that the are NOT taking a cut from your wages. It doesn't work like that.

 

I understand how it grates to go through a registered supplier because you have to, but most folk would balk at waiting 60-120 days to get paid etc for a start. It also gives you and the end client certain protection.

 

Most "gimme" rates are at 2-5% and the agencies make little or no money for the payrolling; it's simply a service to the client and can even be a loss leader

She says without a doubt the biggest ballache they have is doing payroll, as you quite rightly point out ti makes them cock all money, and on occassion it can be argued it actually costs them money (especially last year when a major client decided not to pay them befre Christmas, but they had to pay about 100 staff)

 

She's worked in recruitment for the last 10 years, and had decided to leave as it's getting more and more difficult, mainly due to clients pulling jobs after she's spent months trying to fill them (and the same from the candidate side as well)

 

Some of the stories she tells me makes me feel that being a Recruitment Consultant is a tough job............then I just think of them driving around in their Bentleys, and that feeling goes away

So long as they earn enough to pay rent I don't see why. I also don't see why the council should house people who've got a job. The same money could be spent on wage top ups. Nor are a lot of people born there particularly. If they are they are from immigrant families or well off enough to live there as it is.

I do understand that and waiting 120 days is impossible for most contractors but a grand a month for paying the full invoice once a month to a ltd company seemed bloody excessive. I once used an umbrella company to do my payroll for 50 quid a month, how they made any money is beyond me.
