Snooker

O'Sullivan just got another 147. Most talented sportsman that ever lived in my opinion. But I am a snooker fanatic, so...

Seen it before, but watched it again. There'll never be another like him.

He lived in Salford in the early nineties and used to hang around a snooker hall I used to go into now and again, charging anyone who wanted to play him £5 per frame - real shame for such a genius

Just watched the Rack Pack on iplayer...a fascinating insight into the 80s snooker scene and the relationship between the flawed genius Alex Higgins and Steve Davis..deffo worth a watch

Just watched it. Very good. Obviously a lot of artistic license was used, but a cracking watch. Particularly impressed by a bit about half-way through when it showed the guy playing Higgins clearing the table. CGI made it look like he did it for real.

Brilliant film, loving the nightclub scrap with The Grinder, and the guy playing Davies has him down to a tee, even his walk down the steps.

Just finished watching this on player. 9/10 for me. Acting first class. Luke Treadaway and Will Merrick who played Higgins and Davis were immense. Would advise anyone who watched snooker in the 80's or likes stuff well produced to give this a look on iplayer.

Spot on, thought the Barry Hearn actor was also impressive

Aye

Just watched it

Hearn excellent

Higgins - just couldn't warm to him even when he was broken

Showing a photo of him when he was proper fooked towards the end would've added to it

Not pretty.

Buried him in one of his cue cases.

He died of malnutrition in the end....found his body several days after...such a sad end

Ronnie turned down the chance of a 147 yesterday at the Welsh Open and made a 146 instead.

Totally arrogant but what an outrageous talent he is!

he said there wasn't much point as it was only 10k haha

They've made a story out of nothing.

He was poorly placed for the last black, but had an easy pink.

If he had  potted the black he would probably have got the 147 (but would not have been well placed to start the colours).

By taking the pink he was almost sure to get 146, and did.

There was a £2k prize for the highest break, which he would get unless someone else scored  a 147.

The 147 prize rolls over and is increased by £5k each time.

If he had tried and got the 147 he would have got £10k, but if he bothers with the next tournament and gets 147 he will only get £5k, instead of the £15k he stands to get.

So his decision was a sensible one.

I remember a good few years back the prize in one tourney was a Honda NSX which I thought was mint.

Sure it used to be £147k in the world championship in the 90s too.

Superb Welsh Open final going on on the red button. The 2 best players in the world IMO.

Absolute genius.

Ronnie not at his best in the final but still a pleasure to watch.

In fact both players were very nervy in the final session, shows major respect for each others ability.

Marco Fu's tip just fell off when he was chalking it. I backed him to win the World Championship last night at 7/1. Fucking typical.

Not ideal but a new tip should not put him out of the running.

A new tip would definitely ruin his game (as it did for Mark Williams earlier in the tournament when his tip split). Even I can tell the difference when I put a new tip on my cue, and I'm shit. Pretty certain Fu's just glued the tip back on, rather than use a new one.
