I read an article last night that included the fact that City now have 450 academy players.

How on earth can anybody, including United, compete with that?

Everyone will now be stood in their sliips waiting for the rejects.

chelsea do

but i read they had something like 40 players out on loan, so it's not like they've got a small squad

It's becoming more and more important to be the best of the rest in our area. We've got a head start with our own stadium and training facilities but you can see a time when some of the bigger clubs in the area, ourselves, Blackburn and Burnley really start to suffer if Utd and City continue their current arms race.

The 450 is not Academy players. It includes all the first team and development squads and the women's teams.

So its just 40 teams they can put out then? Shocking.  :shifty:

Had a walk around the ground on Saturday, and was in that City Square they have.

Bloody hell they have come on, they are a huge club now.

They've always been MASSIVE

The other half teaches science. Couple if years ago she tutored for city and had some kid who's supposed to be the next big thing, think he's dutch but comes from north Africa. Anyway the lad said that city had bought his family a house and put his brother/sister in private education and sorted his parents out with jobs. City had some bloke employed to basically wipe the academy players backsides if needed. Apparently this kids brother was on citys books too so perhaps they were getting special treatment but how can we conpete with that. Footballs gone mad. From what she's said this lads played a couple of matches as a sub. Guessing this will be a money making scheme selling off academy players.

My mates lad is at Accrington Academy, other week the played City, U9's I think, anyhow Agueros lad was playing for City and Accy beat them twice in 2, 20 minutes games.

He did say Agueros lad was different gravy though.

16.5 pitches?????

40,000km of artificial turf on 5.5 pitches?????

How does that 1 work out unless they've run out of money

Chimichurri surely?

The half pitch is the goalies training area

Not a patch on Bromwich Street.

They are trying to replicate the Barcelona set up, a section is residential with kids educated on site along with all the coaching.

Yeah apparently it's like a village.

Citeh used to have the kids in South Manchester apartments and houses - this lad and his family used to be in the flat directly under my old one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B3bert_Mak

Gumbo and I have a good mate who is part of the Academy set up and apparently it's ridiculous compared to Platt Lane.

Good on em for all the doom and gloom foreign owners are supposed to bring, the sheikh has worked wonders for that club and city.

Aye, fair enough, hes not just pumped money into the team, its quite impressive the way hes trying to pump money into the local economy.

they need it to pay £48 for a match ticket

About average for the prem though. Unfortunately.

Good on them, in 5 years, their Turnover has gone from £80 Million to £350 million!

They are not going anywere, and the DMB's are hating it!

aye, though I always remember them "boycotting" the Reebok when we were (IIRC) charging the going rate

when really, they just didn't want to come because the time they were shit, and skint (it was Jan)

And anything that pisses them off has to be a good thing

The fact they can build a 7k seater stadium as almost an after thought is scary.

There's league 2 clubs who'd give their right arm for that stadium.

thing is

I can see the point in wanting the best academy

and city for years had one of the best and regularly brought players through and played them

but if City want to dominate and win CL and all that, they'll always buy first, unless they have a manager committed to the long term future of the club and be willing to bring kids though - like AF at Utd

i don't see them being that long term with their managers though, we'll see

They're aware of the pressure from ffp and the success of Barcelona.

The idea is to develop the bulk of the squad and bring in the megastars with the cash they're allowed to spend.
